Thats the question that came to mind as I sat there watching Scooby Doo for the second time in theatres. At the 2002 MTV movie awards Jack Black, her co-host, had more cleavage than she did! That’s just sad! I guess the long hours on the set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer got rid of any pesky body fat she might have! I guess Vampire Slayers are anorexic. Thats good to know.
Okay as for this awesome movie: First of all Matthew Lillard does an EXCELLENT job with the role of Shaggy. He sounds just like the original Shaggy (Casey Kasem.) Scooby is down right adorable!!! I have a giant Scooby doo in my room I love that guy so much!! hahaha!
Anyway the movie has some things in common with the TV show but it gave more depth to the characters. It was refreshing to see Velma get some action!! Each character had a chance to show a little personality (except for Prince Jr., but I’m not sure if that was his fault or the scripts.)
Rowan Atkinson invites the Scooby gang to his island to figure out why the teenagers at his resort are behaving so strangely. Think the movie “Disturbing Behavior” with the teens having incredible hulk like strength! Daphne (Gellar) is equipped with her trade mark purple. Velma has her glasses and orange sweater. Fred has his bizarre neckerchief and bland blond hair. Matthew Lillard has the bell bottoms and goatee of Shaggy. They are the spitting image of the Scooby gang! It was totally cool to see that!
It was nice to see Velma and Daphne take a stand for themselves. Daphne, especially wanted to fight against the damsel in distress stereotype. It was really cool to watch. The villain at the end was a totally awesome surprise!
I swear Freddie Prince Jr. can’t do a movie without either his best friend (Matthew Lillard) or his fiancée (Sarah Michelle Gellar.) I’m sorry he’s so bland and generic. Playing his own name and such a boring character really proved that to me. As if his movies She’s all that, Summer Catch and Wing Commander didn’t already do that for me!!!
The PG-13 film lasts about an hour and half. The only offensive elements are somewhat of a gross out factor. There’s a scene that involves flatulence and belching (Now doesn’t that sound pleasant!) Despite that it was definitely an enjoyable film!! Remember I saw it in theatres twice!!
