Grow your vocabulary with scrabble

I remember playing scrabble with my mother, sister and relatives when I was a young child growing up. We used to sit their for hours and form words with the tiles on our rack. It was a great past time for us, not to mention it helped us grow our vocabulary and learn to spell better than most children of our ages.

Scrabble is played with two to four players. Each player draws a letter from a bag and the person with the lowest letter generally goes first. The first person draws seven letters then passes the bag to the rest of players so they can draw seven letters to. You start by forming words in the middle of the board. After a word is formed and points have been added, the next player builds off of the first person’s word. It then goes on and on, until finally everyone has used all of their tiles. The person with the most points, wins the game.

Rules: Generally rules are discussed before the game begins. Certain people, may have different house rules; such as if a dictionary should only be used for challenges or can be used at any time during the game. In my house, we generally let the dictionary be fair play and you are allowed to look up a word before playing. (My husband has a difficult time spelling, therefore, if he is forced to play scrabble by one of us, we likes to keep a dictionary on hand, so he is less embarrassed).

I have always loved playing scrabble. I even began playing scrabble online, awhile back through mplayers. It can be very addictive if you have a good challenger!
