For a long time I was planning to read Amitav Ghosh’s work, but somehow everytime I drifted towards other stuff. This year when I went to International Book fair at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, I decided to buy one of his books. I was almost certain to buy "Glass Palace" but somehow when I picked "Sea of Poppies" and read first few pages, I changed my mind and bought it.
As for the storyline, I really liked it. I have never read anything from that era (British Colonial period in India) so I really liked the details which this book revealed to me. Secondly I had no clue about that How islands like Mauritius, Maldives etc have so many Indian natives, which I got to know from SOP. I really liked the way Mr Ghosh has intervened all the stories and there are plenty of them. Its more like the Film-noir kind of plot. His description of the ship and its incidents really thrilled me.
At the end I came to know that this book was part of a trilogy called "Ibis trilogy". Eagerly waiting for the next two of the series.
