TV as a means of entertainment without having to step out of the house, did make sense, and continues to make sense.....what remains to be seen is, what kind of sense and how much!
Captivating the household audience is a very tricky thing, and Raadhika Sarathkumar has been making quite good strides on those lines with her Radaan Media. She is to South India what Ekta Kapoor is to the North.
But entertainment turning into an addiction is where we need to cross the line. We cannot afford to form a routine out of soaps and other media shows. TV shows were and always should be those moments when you want to be by yourself or family, and not have to speak amongst the selves. But with the kind of stories being dished out today, families are being absorbed into the fallous world of soaps and television, a very very dangerous thing to happen. We are seeing a distinctive move from reality and virtuality...Women folk identify themselves with different characters on these soaps, and eventually turn into those roles.
We need to draw a line...draw it now, and make TV exactly what it was meant to be...entertainment, NOT a way of life!!!
Selvi is a great story, and so is any novel or book which I pick up to read, that is created by articulate and intellectual minds. I will not mind saying "hats off" to Raadhika Sarathkumar for those 2 qualities that are clearly visible in her, but I would mind saying is, look at REALITY for a change, and how much of it you are changing, how much of it is being erased, and people are slowly becoming our worst fears, their minds are being manipulated at will!!!
Lets take it on from here then................
