HOW DO YOU FIND TRUE LOVE?

The other night we watched the film called SERENDIPITY. It was made last year, (2001), and the Album was released at the same time. In case you didn’t know this Movie was filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is almost two hours long. This film was Directed by Peter Chelson

It is a remade film one that was made in 1994. I loved the Movie but I loved the soundtrack so I’m going to tell you a bit about both.

Serendipity means meeting or making a discovery by accident. The Movie is about a chance meeting and what happens after that.

~O THE CO-STARS O~

~O MY REVIEW o~

  • Before I begin I would like you to know when we rent a DVD in Canada it does not come in a box but in a plastic holder.

The film opens at the Bloomingdale Shop in New York City. We are in the Notions area by the gloves. Sara and Jonathan and Sara meet when they both reach for the same pair of gloves.

Jonathan wants to get them for his girlfriend and Sara wants them for her boyfriend. (I couldn’t understand how a pair of gloves could fit both a Woman and a Man.

Jonathan invites Sara for a drink at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. She accepts his invitation. While they are chatting over their drinks Sara asks Jonathan if he believes in ’’Serendipity’’. They begin to talk about what ’’chance meetings mean.

Jonathan thinks that his meeting with Sara might have been an act of Fate but Sara disagrees. They leave the Bar and go down the Street in the opposite direction. Suddenly they both remember they left something behind and go back to the Restaurant only to meet once again.

This the point were the ’’Serendipity’’. They decide to go to for a walk together and end up at the ice skating rink in Central Park.

Jonathan doesn’t want to meet Sara again but she refuses. She decides if they are to meet again it will be by chance.

Sara is writes down her number on a piece of paper. When she goes to hand it to him a truck drives by and causes a breeze and the paper flies away.

Jonathan doesn’t want to give up so they reach a compromise. He writes his number on the back of a five dollar bill. Kate takes it and walks to a Kiosk and buys some thing with it. The next Customer receive the bill as change and refuses to give it to Jonathan.

The reach another compromise and Sara writes her name and number inside the first page of a Book. She promises to sell it to a used Bookstore.

As she walks away she indicated if their love was meant to be one of them would find the five dollar bill or the Book.

Jonathan yells at her, ’’This ridiculous! We have something going on here and you’re just going to trust it all to Fate?’’

Fast forward to a few years later. Neither of them has find the other ones phone number. Sara didn’t look to hard but Jonathan keeps going to ever used Book Store he can find, (over and over again).

Both of them are now engaged. Suddenly they both begin to see ’’signs’’. Sara sees a Movie Poster in a window, (he told it what it was at the Bar).

Jonathan hears a biker right outside his taxi window while sitting at a red light singing ’’Sara Smile’’, (a Hall & Oates song).

....and this is where my tale ends! Sorry I never tell the ending of a Book or a Movie.

I will tell you that John Cusack and Kate Beckinsal were magical when they were on the screen together. The three costars provided the ’’comic relief’’. The music was so wonderful that I must tell you about it.

~O MY REVIEW OF THE ALBUM O~

The Album is full of romantic songs and I loved them all. Each of the Artists, (except one), are well know and that is what makes the songs wonderful.

I love voices than have a “”twangy”” sound and Chantal Kreviazuk has one when he sings ’’This Year.’’ No one can beat Louis Armstrong with his cigarette husky voice.

I had never hear of Bap Kennedy and I loved they way he jazzed up the song ’’Moonlight Kiss’’.

When I saw the Movie I forgot these were new songs some how they seem familiar to me because the reminded me of the music I listed to in the 1950’s and ’60’s.

~O SOME THOUGHTS O~

I know that this a Movie review but I recommend both the Film and the Album to you.

We paid $5.00 to rent the film and I $ 16.00 Canadian dollars for this Album.

Sony’s Miramax Label produced this record and the ID # is 7464-61583-2
