I m sure u all mite have been bored reading my 5 series rvu’s so its time for a change now. That doesn’t mean I m retiring from MS as Adi said Abhi to mere khelne kudne ke din hai. Neways coming back to the rvu I have already written on best serials and worst serials on T.V and it was a long time since I wrote something on T.V. so I thought lets honour T.V queen “K”ekta kapoor. Now I wont whack her serials I have found out how she makes her serials so popular and watchable (Tadan tadan….ting ting ting). There are certain funda’s which I am stating below which ensures life-long validity of her serial(s).
Funda 1: When one problem gets over another problem starts but the serial never gets over.
The most basic and important funda of probably all serials. If one problem gets over start another problem and let viewers glued to T.V for yet another hundred episodes. Introduce new characters which no-one would have ever heard of and let them create problems. Do all this and keep the TRP ratings high.
Funda 2: The good looses and evil wins and evil is never caught.
What an innovative way. In today’s serials only the evil wins and the good looses. Ofcourse if good wins then the serial gets over then how to stretch it for thousand episodes so let the evil prevail (devil prevail???...nah)
Funda 3: Marry the unexpected.
Hehe..this cannot be in real-life. If u have noted in serials marriage of those who want to marry each other never take place. Only the bad or some weirdo is married. A young girl is married to an old guy becoz of some pressure and then she falls in love with a young lad and then the poor old guy who has come in for a few episodes goes off the serial without her girl. How innovative.
Funda 4: Evil has many friends and Good has no friends to help.
Wo kehte hai na..dushman ka dushman dost hota hai. This psychology applies here. Always the evil has many friends who unite to harass the good but unfortunately the good never has friends. The good is the lone-sufferer (that is because the script-writer said so). The funda is first the bad guy creates a few problems for fifty odd episodes then one of evil’s friend enters and he creates problems which ensures long-life of serials.
Funda 5: Don’t believe what family members say believe what outsiders say.
Well this is a universal fact in the serials. When something happens in a family in a serial the members don’t trust each other and they trust the people from outside and pin-point their own family-members. Now this is called family-bonding(in serials).
Funda 6: Hero always dies and then returns.
I don’t think I need to tell u more about this. I think we have seen this in all serials. It’s a universal standard for serials running on T.V. in India. The lead actor always dies and when all the rona-dhona gets over and people in the serial are getting back to normal the hero comes back. Not only this some characters that the director forgets in some episodes return back from U.S or Aus. Or Swiz. Or from some Business trip where they went for business expansion.
Funda 7: The Flash Forward theory.
Want to keep the soap running for thousand episodes apply the “K”ektaji’s Flash forward theory of putting the serial in time-machine and move it ahead for 8, 20 etc etc years. Do this introduce another hundred of new characters and keep running ur serial. After a few hundred episodes time for another flash forward.
Funda 8: Old Villian re-entry.
So what is flash-forward occurs. Ofcourse the old-villian is also coming forward to create problems. Now new villains will also help. In most cases the old villian looks young and energetic than the heroes.
Funda 9: Start all your serials with “K”
Well since all of the TV soaps by Ektaji are popular so if new soap is to be aired start it with K so that people would atleast give a glimpse that a new serial has been started. Once they see the first episode then not to worry about the rest of episodes.
Funda 10: Initially start the serial with good twists and turns and then make all the same.
I have to admit it. The serials (currently 2-3-4 years old) when initially they were good enough and enjoyable. But then since the TRP went high and viewers were glued to the TV watching these serials now no need of a story. Keep on repeating funda 1.
