The famous ‘ Sex and the City’ series broadcast in HBO couldn’t create the lasting magic when compiled into a movie in its first part and in the sequel, it failed even pathetically. For the second time, the female gang of four come together to taste a life of difference from their mundane, married life which some way or the other is screwing up, becoming complicated or growing older.
Carrie’s life with Big turns out like a business contract of making a successful marital bliss without kids and without stepping each other’s spaces; where they decides reluctantly to take a break for 2days out of 7days of marriage every week, so that they have a rejuvenating sex life after each break. Samanta, the oldest of them is now in her fifties but trying hard to be in her thirties with all kinds of medicines available. She is seen in complete desperation to stop her menopause and keep her libido high for keeping her sex life with young men in full zest. Charlotte with her two kids is going nuts managing house and kitchen in the daytime and four people on her bed at night. Miranda, who maintained a striking balance between her professional and personal lives at ease, is facing a dead block under her dominating boss and estrangement with her family and kid. Under such difficult phase of life and middle age these women once again assemble together to have a ball under the skies of the ‘New Future’ in Abu Dhabi, the Middle East hub of fashion and fun. What kind of adventures land up into their holiday spree at Abu Dhabi? What changes dawn upon them post trip, is the crux of the movie.
In the fairytale like land of Abu Dhabi each of the friends has their own exclusive experiences. Carrie runs into her ex-boyfriend while shopping in a crowded place and lands up being cozy with him in a lip-locking smooch; she feels extremely guilty about her act of smooching her ex’ and jeopardize her marriage by a confession. A Smooch makes a US metro-sexual woman guilty? Well, forget about Hollywood/Bollywood, even in Tollywood it’s a peanut advancement. Did they hire the screenplay writer from any of Indian remote villages? Hard to believe! Charlotte obsessed with her family back at home and of course, the bra-less nanny for her hubby Harry; she goes nuts by drinking like a fish with Miranda after getting a blow from Carrie on her extremist, conservative view points about dating and mating.
Miranda the most well-read about Abu Dhabi is seen speaking Arabic at times and almost everytime alerting Samanta to cover up her exposed parts in public. She is the most sensible and mature amongst the other school kids those get swayed at the slightest provocations. Samanta, the aggressive, bold New York PR who gives the privilege of touring in luxury to the other three women, finds it hard to sustain her 7 days living without her pills. She feels her hormones are going weaker as they never seem to arouse her. Finally to save from her conflicts she meets a Danish architect who not only arouses her but to such great extent that she lands up in the police custody for defying codes and conducts at Abu Dhabi. However, it was out of her modern attitude of having beach sex she loses her business contract and all the luxury provided along with them. In an overnight, the women accompanied with the best of everything in the world turn into beggars in the streets of Abu Dhabi. How they come back safe and sound and how Carrie is accepted by her Big is something to find out now!
The movie is about the psychological portrayal of women and their insecurities at various phases of life, and how they themselves fight out their tussles. But the movie which started well by displaying different kinds of women with different thought processes having different expectations out of life, the tempo somewhere got lost in the deserts of Abu Dhabi.
I couldn’t figure out the purpose of taking them overseas to Abu Dhabi and letting the plot go loose completely. In the display of castle like hotel, Ferrari cars for each one of them, hotel rooms like palace, 24hrs for each one for them, too many designer wears and flashy lifestyles, the simplicity of the movie that was focusing on a womans mind and her small wishes from life, got lost. Too much of improper clothes that did not suit the situations, marred the taste of sophistication in the movie. The script in the first part before going to Abu Dhabi, was heading pretty swiftly with humor and sharp wit. Suddenly the temperature to keep going up-and-up dropped and hid under the clothes these women started flaunting ever after. Acting skills are not so fine and effective. Sarah Jessica Parker who played the protagonist did not keep up the mark. I rather found, Samanta(Kim Cattrel) who resembled a blonde Rakhi Sawant was more vivacious in her role she did here. Charlotte was a plastic beauty and Miranda did make her place comfortable amidst all other ladies.
So nothing as thrilling and enjoying as I thought it would be. Rather, you can open the Fashion TV and sit in front of it than going for this flick.
My Rating: 2 out of 5
