Shaadi Se Pehle

Director : Satish Kaushik

Plot: Hypochondriac Ashish (Akshaye Khanna) has worked hard the past five years of his life so that he can become worthy of his love Rani (Ayesha Takia) and gain the approval of her father. When all seems like it is going to end happily Ashish discovers he is dying of cancer. In order to minimize the pain Rani will feel when he dies, he decides he is openly going to cheat on her and hopes that eventually she will leave him. What follows is a hilarious journey where he has brushes with super model Sania (Mallika Sherawat) and Uncerworld don Anna (Suneil Shetty) all while thinking he could die the next day. Will Ashish succeed in his plans? To find out watch Shaad Se Pehle!!

What Works: The movie has some really funny scenes that is bound to have most audiences in splits. I particularly liked the scenes with Anna and though they were refreshing. Akshaye Khanna has given a sincere performance and effortlessly slips in to the character of Ashish the hypochondriac. Boman Irani is hilarious as the doctor. Mallika and Suniel do not fail at entertaining. Another plus for the movie is the song Bijuria, since the whole song wasn’t featured on the DVD, I caught it on the special features!

What Doesn’t Work: The length of the movie is a BIG drawback. Some scenes were absolutely unneccessary and should have been edited. Also, to label Akshaye Khanna’s character as a hypochondriac really wasn’t enough for most of the audience that probably wouldn’t even know what the word means. The only performance that dissapointed me was Ayesha Takia’s. All she was asked to do was to look pretty and she (or rather her stylist) couldn’t even pull that off. She looked like Akshaye could be her dad, and the ugly nose ring only made it worse. It seemed to me that a sixteen year oldwas trying to look like a 23-25 year old and was failing miserably.

Overall I would say Shaadi Se Pehle is a perfect movie for one of those days when you have nothing to do. You can just kick back enjoy a good laugh and then go on with your life. It clearly doesn’t leave you with much to think about but at the same time leaves you very satisfied.
