It tells the story of Akshaye Khanna who plays a young man who mistakenly believes that hes dying of cancer. He knows this news will leave his fiancee Ayesha Takia quite shattered so he decides not to reveal the truth to her. He figures that the only way shell come away unhurt is if she dumps him herself. But why would she dump him? Well, if he pretended to be an alcoholic and a womaniser, she certainly would. So thats exactly what he does. Akshaye pretends hes suddenly developed the hots for sizzling model Mallika Sherawat, and exactly as per plan, his fiancee sees red.
Now the only problem is that Mallika really falls for him, and its not so easy getting out of that situation, because her brother Sunil Shetty happens to be an underworld don. Of course, eventually, Akshaye finds out he doesnt have cancer and hes not about to die. But by now, his fiancee is in the arms of his childhood rival Aftab Shivdasani, and hes got an underworld don gunning for him.
The film has an engaging first half.Although the pace drops at regular intervals, one actually doesnt mind the first half since the humour succeeds in bringing a smile on your face.
But the graph of the film does an about-turn in the second half. The goings-on move at a sluggish pace and also get boring at this point Even the climax is such an anti-climax. A better end shouldve been thought of.
Director Satish has handled the light sequences with aplomb, but he is terribly handicapped by a weak screenplay.Music is pleasing to the ears.Tere Liye is seeped in melody, but is wrongly placed in the narrative and can easily be chopped off to make the pace faster.
Cinematography is striking. Dialogues are witty and the ones delivered by Rajpal and Sunil deserve special mention.
Theres consistency in Akshay performance .Ayesha is quite alright, playing the plain Jane part with ease.Mallika endears for the generous dosage of skin show.Rajpal Yadav is first-rate, enacting his part with conviction.Watch at your own peril.
