Shakti, skip it.

Shakti-the power is a shameless movie that shows exploitation of women & dominance of men. The movie gives the impression that this is the way things function in Central India. It certainly defies logic that gang wars are carried on across generations. There are many insensitive scenes in which women are beaten, kicked & slapped. This film tries to show how women can defy all odds to emerge stronger & face the world on their own terms. But hello, Karisma is shown throughout the movie as someone who is trying to escape rather than outwit her father-in-law Nana Patekar. A very commendable performance by Nana Patekar, who looks very believable in a stereotyped role. Karisma has the author backed role, but Karisma’s limitations as an actress are exposed. The role was originally meant for Sridevi & Karisma is just about okay. Shahrukh Khan has a role that suits him, a day dreamer. His performance is sheer overacting, his death scene is exaggerated & one cannot empathise with his character, as it is not well defined. He should stick around with the Chopras & the Johars in strict romantic roles & not try to experiment. He falls flat on his face in this attempt. Sanjay Kapoor is good in parts. Overall, a film that you would rather give a skip.
