Background: I wanted to chill out in the hot climate of Kolkata and also I wanted to have some entertainment as it was a nice but hectic weekend for me. I went to city center the most happening place in Kolkata and booked a ticket for “Shaka Laka Boom Boom” in Inox. When I entered the theater I was shocked to see the entire theater was empty although it was just the third day of the movie on screens. I though might be people want listen feedback first or may be it’s because of the climate. But my thoughts were proved wrong when the movie progressed.
Concept: The movie talks about the dirty game of music industry. The story is nothing new as there as other movies also on the same topic. We all know that there’s dirty game behind this industry. Good music doesn’t do good but good marketing does. People listen what is sold to them not what is good. The concept of this movie is good and one can definitely make a good movie on this but he has to make sure that he is just stating the facts. Also the movie should be focused in stead of putting lots of “bollywood masala” into this.
Plot: AJ(Boby Deol) is a successful musician. He lives in Newyork. He has come from a very low background and he has a habit of winning. Rajjie(Upen Patel) is a very talented musician. AJ and Rajjie both love Ruhi(Kangana Ranaut). But because of the craze Rajjie has for Ruhi, Ruhi also falls in love with Rajjie. The talent of Rajjie and the departure of Ruhi are not affordable by AJ and he decides to ruin the life on Rajjie. The story revolves around the struggle of Rajjie and the clever act of AJ. I won’t reveal the end as I won’t wish to break the interest for those who are still planning to watch it.
Music: The story revolves around music industry but still the music of this movie is not that great. Few songs are good but they are good while listening only. They don’t much fit into the movie. Himesh Resamiya has gain tried his nasal voice which has become very irritating now. My personal favorite from this movie is “Thare Waste”.
Star Cast: Boby Deol has given an average performance as he always does in his movies although he looks good as a STAR musician. He has put on weights which suits the role. Upen Patel looks good and his performance is above average. As a blunt person, as a Casanova or as an upcoming musician he has done justice with his role. Kangana Ranaut is looking sweet as always. She has not much to do in this movie but what ever time she is on screen she makes people crazy for her. I must say she was the sole attraction for me in this movie. Celina Jetely has also nothing to do apart from few sizzling kisses. She is there in the movie for show up and she does it well. Anupam Kher has a short but sweet role and he does it excellently. Dilip Tahil and other actors have given average performance.
My Views: I liked the concept and the kind of passion it has but the flow of the movie, direction and overall movie is not as per the expectations. Few songs are good but we can’t just watch movies because of few songs. Apart from all these flaws the movie is also trying to make us laugh which is ridiculous. They have put some comedy scenes which don’t fit in the movie, to the flow and to the actors. I think the concept is good and once can make a good movie out of it if he is focused on the topic.
Recommendation: Overall I won’t recommend this movie. If want some entertainment then you may watch some old movies on CD/DVD but it doesn’t make sense to waste your time and money on it.
