Indeed it was a dream come true for many. Amitabh Bachchan got a chance to work with the Thespian Dilip Kumar after 14 yrs of his career. Ramesh Sippy wanted to deviiate from the masala of Sholay & Shaan. A film called Shakti was born.A solid drama about an estranged father and son, who eventually end up on either side of the law.
For many people it may be a revelation this story of estranged father
-son relationship was witnessed in a previous film in 1972 called Sambandh. However Ramesh sippys choice of the actors and treatment make it a treat to this date.

The film starts with an introduction into the life of Ashwini Kumar.his
wife Sheetal (rakhee) gives birth to a son Vijay ( Amitabh).Ashwini has
a tussles with a gunda JK ( amrish puri). One dy Vijay is kidnapped by

Ashwini refuses point blank on the phone and this conversation
unfortunately is heard by Vijay on the phone and he misunderstands his
father. When the police comes to his rescue he is already let go by a
gang member ( Khulbushan Kharbanda).
This gives birth to a never ending hatred in Vijays heart for his father.
Time flies.Ashwini is now on a higher post, Vijay is looking for work, he
meets a singer Roma(smita patil) and falls in love. However he has few
brushes with the law and again his very own father refuses to help him
on the premise, If he is innocent he will be left off.
Vijay on being released starts working for Kharbanda.whereas Ashwini is
after JK, as well as Vijay. However Vijay is arrested along with is gang.
In the end while trying to kill Ashwini, Sheetal gets killed.Vijay escapes to seek revenge from JK.
