Shakuntala Devi is a 2020 Indian Hindi language film, scheduled to theatrically release on May 8, 2020, but later postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie starring Vidya Balan as its protagonist "Shakuntala Devi", is written and directed by Anu Menon, alongside celestially adept actors like Jisshu Sengupta(Paritosh Banerjee), Sanya Malhotra(Anupama Banerjee) and Amit Sadh(Ajay Abhaya Kumar).
The movie, despite all hurdles, finally made its grandeur entry into the entertainment space when the production house Sony Pictures Networks India and Vikram Malhotra decided to stream it on Amazon Prime on July 31, 2020.
Well, as expected, since the day of its release, this feminist-based family drama has refused to leave the cloud 9. Whether it is the ubiquitous popularity among the "Vidya-fans" or the loud roaring of the "Mathematics prodigies" club, the film has been quite successful in gratifying its audience, targeting viewers of almost all age-groups and genres.
Further, its pulchritudinous theme of the predilection that a mother shares with her daughter, erratically, by going a bit overboard, also ended up keeping the viewers glued to their screen, thereby accounting for the path of success that the movie is continuously treading on.
Even though some of the critics were of the opinion that the movie somehow fell back on its tracks in targeting the professional run-of-the-mill journey of the "Human Computer", I am of the conviction, that this was just a tactic, resorted to by the producers, to succor the motion-picture build on a strong pedestal for itself, amidst the entertainment-seeking crowd of Indian cinema and Bollywood fanatics.
After all, some "masala" is all we look forward to, amidst the monotony of the impending "work from home" and "online classes" schedule, isnt it?
Well, I guess, it would be quite veracious to say that the movie did do justice on all its fronts, through its brilliant plot-line, character dramatization and picturesque photography, especially in its foreign locations, ceaselessly highlighting on its dialogue, "jab amazing ho sakti hun, toh normal kyu banu?"
All things considered, "Shakuntala devi", is a brilliant piece of biographical creativity, all set to leave its positive imprint on the gullible and innocent minds of Indian women, who have been waiting for opportunities to strike that clock, so that even they can step into the world, thereupon making a name and an idiosyncratic specification for themselves.
