Concept was good but movie is very confusing!!!!

Plot:- A small town somewhere in India is poised to become the next Shanghai. Billions of dollars are being poured into an upcoming International Business Park.

On the eve of its launch, a drunk truck driver mows down a prominent social activist. A lone girl believes it to be a murder, supported by a porn film maker who claims to have the proof that will bring the government down. A high ranking bureaucrat is brought in to investigate the accident.

Shanghai, a political thriller, follows the journey of these unlikely heroes as they come together to find justice in the labyrinth of Indian democracy.

Verdict:-

From the director Kholsa ka ghosla, comes Shangai. Seen from the lenses of middle class it tells the ironical story of development in India. The concept was very good but execution lacks in more then one one.Biggest let down was the screenplay. Screenplay was so confusing that no matter how intellectual you are it will be hard to understand .Confusion was all over the movie.Characters are totally vague. Kalki’s character though instigated the entire movie was not powerful enough to get any sympathy in the end.Prasenjit Chatterjee’s character as Dr. Ahmedi leaves absolutely no impression. His dialogues should have been more hard hitting. He totally fails to impress.

On the positive side the actors performed brilliantly. The three lead Emraan Hashmi, Kalki and Abhay Deol have done justice to their respective roles. Though Emraan Hashmi is totally wasted. The back ground score also lives up with the characters and the story telling. Abhay Deol as the current day bureaucrat he brings conclusion to the movie that no matter what justice will find its way.The character of Mrs, Ahmedi played by Tilotama Shome turns out to be winner in this game of fate but she has nothing to do in the movie, Which somehow is hard to digest.

All in all, Shanghai is a story of India’s quest of development but tied between politics and bureaucracy and sufferers are the middle class who have no choice to make.
