Good Old Shangrila

I visited Shangrila a few times in Dec 2004 when I was in India for a vacation alone. It seems like nothing has changed since I was a college student in the 80’s in bangalore and used to hang out in brigade’s.

Shangri-la , Rice Bowl and Continental were the 3 chinese restaurants best known at Brigade’s in the 80’s and early 90’s. I did not find the Continental restaurant but did go to shangrila.

The place:

It is right next to Rex theatre on the first floor. The bored gurka still sits outside in the entrance. Once you get in it is dark inside but clean and the toilets did not smell

I sat in a table which faced Brigade’s and it bought back lovely memories. I remembered that I used to bring my girlfriend a couple of times a month here and even proposed to her. She agreed but then backed out when I said that I am moving out to USA. This was in 1988 !!!

The Food:

I had my favorite Veg Fried Rice and Sweet Corn Soup along with kingfisher chilled beer for lunch. Sat there for 2 hours and remembered all the good times I used to have here.

The Price:

Spent about $3 or about Rs140. Lots of good food for this price.

The Service:

Excellent service and staff is very polite.

In passing it is still the good old Shangrila. Years have passed, Times have changed but some things do not change and Shangrila will never change. I think it is still the best chinese restaurant in Bangalore even though others may not agree with me.
