Shaurya is the first fresh film of this year - it might have been
inspired byA few good men as many claim, but in the end, I think
the only real copy was Rahul Bose chewing on some gum to remind us of
who he might be trying to impersonate. Luckily, thats where the
comparison ends. KK Menon is awesome as the brigadier with a
traumatic past and on a personal genocide mission. His character does
well to stand upto his definition ofshaurya in the movie, only it
turns out to be a little misplaced. Amrita Rao could have used this
real acting opportunity, but she seems to be stuck in a 70s
fatalistic Army wife kind of attitude. Minnisha(I always thought it
was Manisha too) is great and yes, in many scenes, she is better
than Priety Zinta in Lakshya(I am not so sure of about the actual
journalism though). Javed Jaffrey does a good comeback(if he is
planning one) and stays in character for most of the film(here, I am
reminded of that ridiculous item song in the beginning of the film,
thoda masala to daalna hi padega?) The film does not really touch many
(senti) chords with an urban audience but still comes across as an
issue-based movie. The Adnan Sami song is awesome and overall, a good
movie, the best this week, at least!
