Completely Refreshing, Bold & Different movie !!

Wanted to watch Tashan but going by the reports changed my decision & went 4 Shaurya & I think it was a right decision.

I knew beforehand that Shaurya is inspired from Hollywood flick "A few good men"(which is one of my favs) is directed by Samar Khan of Kuch Meetha Ho Jaye fame. The movie stars Rahul Bose, Javed Jaffrey, Kay Kay Menon, Minissha Lamba, Deepak Dobriyal, Seema Biswas and Amrita Rao in a special guest apperance.

Shaurya is the story of Javed…a man wronged by his country by the very men who he fought with and were his friends. It’s the story of Siddhant, whose only aim in life was to escape reality and wasn’t ready for what life brought him. It’s the story of Kavya who never understood why it was difficult to speak the truth. It’s the story of Akash for whom living the rules was the only way to live life. And it’s the story of Brig. Pratap, a man who lived by his own rules even if they were against humanity…

Captain Javed Khan is charged with treason & killing a fellow officer. Even when he is held for court martial, he refuses to speak in his defense as the secret he holds is too powerful for the establishment to handle. Assigned for this task are Sid and Akash… two best friends, lawyers & very ambitious individuals who have contrasting views on life.

Nevertheless, this one case will change their lives… forever. The case takes them to Srinagar valley. While Akash for whom winning the case matters the most, follows the blueprint, Sid discovers a new meaning in life, Kavya, Javed and of course the man in question, Brigadier Pratap. They all start becoming catalysts in the case and become much more vital than his perception.

Samar Khan has partially succeeded in executing the desi version of A few good men.The movie begins with a not so good item number and takes an entire first half to build the characters, also the first half tends to drag a bit.

The second half too is slow at places but the brilliant last 30 mins or so more than makes up for it. Film requires editing atleast 10 mins can be easily chopped off along with the not-so-hot item number.

The music - Dheere Dheere stands out(very soothing number which’s quite uncommon these days). its a beautiful romantic track. Cinematography is great.

Rahul Bose rocks, his facial expressions are fantastic. Javed Jaffrey is a very underrated actor, he is top notch in a non-comical role. But its Kay Kay Menon who stands out with a brilliant performance… Minissha Lamba does complete justice to her role. Deepak Dobriyal is good. Seema Biswas is average.

Overall, Shaurya is a good film with brilliant performances by the male actors.  I believe the 25 odd people in the theatre too liked the flick.

MY RATING: 3.5/5

Cheers!
