Shimla is told to be queen of hill stations. It offers magnificent views of hills, greenery and ice in winters. It is accessible by road, toy train. It is a hill town with localities at different levels. The main street is mall road which is only for pedestrians. The ridge road, lakkar bazar, lower bazar are accessible from mall road.
There is no public transport and you have to have your own convenience, or get a taxi or go by foot. Invariably, you get to walk 5 kms a day conservatively.
The main attractions are mall road, Naldehra, Kufri and Fagu where you can view scenic locations. Kufri has a nice zoo worth a visit. Naldehra has film locations and you can view Himalayan peaks.
For best sightseeing deals, visit HP Tourism at Scandal Point, Mall road where you can get economic tours at Rs.300/- per head onwards. Ghodiwala charges at Naldehra are Rs.500/- apiece.
Toy train reservation is scarce. General tickets for passenger trains are available but you have to get in quickly as seats get filled up early.
The food is expensive here. Items worth buying are apricot jams, shawls etc. For a change, Himachal Pradesh Police are nice and cooperative.
Worth a visit.
