Ladies and Gentlemen , let me present to u Sholay. Well, the name says it all - SHOLAY . What words can describe it? Legend , Groundbreaking , Classic, Fantastic , Superb, Enthralling , Awesome . The list can go on till infinity. Well I am not going to tell u about the plot of the movie, because if u have not seen this movie than u don’t deserve to live. U should be banished from India. For readers outside, India. Sholay is to Hindi movies as Godfather was to Hollywood. For u readers here is just a basic layout of the movie.
The movie is inspired by the seven samurai and it is about 2 guys who fight for a village and for a ex-cop’s revenge on a notorious dacoit. Dharmendra (Veeru ) who is the flirty and fun loving guy and Amitabh (Jai) who is the ever so serious guy, are the 2 guys while Sanjeev Kapoor (Thakur ) is the ex-cop who wants to get even with Amjad Khan (Gabbar Singh). Dharmendras love interest is Hema Malini (Basanti) who is horse cart rider and Amitabh’s Kinda love interest is Jaya Bacchhan. The rest of the cast consists of the Jailor (Asrani), Surma Bhopali and of course Kalia and Samba
It made Amitabh and Dharmendra , the already big stars into superstars of unfathomable levels. It established Hema Malini and Jaya Bacchhan as even bigger stars than they were before. Sanjeev Kapoor showed his tremendous acting skills and my favouraite character of the movie is Gabbar Singh. Amjad Khan has done a tremendous Job. Still some of his lines linger in my memory. Let us recollect some of the most famous and memorable scenes from this movie.
1) The starting train scene where Sanjeev the cop takes the help of veeru and jai for fighting of the dacoits coming in horses. One of the all time greatest action Scenes.
2) Then we have the scene in the jail where Asrani , the jailor leaves the famous dialogue ‘ Hum Angrezo ke Zamane ke Jailor Hai . Then, in the jail , Veeru and Jai give him the slip and get away.
3) Then we have the scene where Basanti and Veeru meet for the first time in the horse Carriage of basanti.
4) Then we have the Scene where the thakur discovers that his family has been destroyed and the scene of the empty swing swinging is a classic and so symbolic.
5) Then the favouraite scene is when Gabbar Singh asks Samba ‘Arre o Samba , Kitne Aadmi the’ . This is probably the most popular line in Hindi Cinema.
6) Also the scene where Jai dies is pretty good and the emotions brought out by Amitabh and Dharamendra is Fantastic.
These are just a few scenes. Pls watch this movie if u have not. Ask any hindi film watcher about his Favouraite Movie and he will say Sholay. That about the sums up the greatness of this movie.
