It all begins with a phone call from them. They congratulate you upon amassing some 85-90 points and they tell you that you have accumulated these points by shopping online on various sites. Now, the next amazing thing they tell you is that you’re in the top 5 point earners in the entire country and that you just need to buy something to "lock in" your position in the top 5. The highest point scorer gets a brand new car! And even if you don’t win the car you will get an assured consolation prize worth 1.6 lakhs. And then they will guide you to make the payment immediately (usually in the range of 8k to 80k) and register yourself for the competition. They have these females who are expert talkers who somehow convince you to make the payment. Then as soon as you have made the payment they ungraciously cut short your questions and hang-up - saying that some executive will call later.
Then, when you do a little research online and realize that somebody just duped you, you call them up and demand back your money. They argue with you and even threaten you that you yourself had made that payment and that nobody had coerced you and that should you bother them they will take legal action against you. Then when you point out that they have a refund policy on their site and that if they fail to adhere to their policies then they shall be complained against in the consumer court, they soften up and "assure" you that somebody will call back and address your grievance.
I still haven’t received that call from them. I have written this only so that you don’t do the same mistake.
