At the very outset, this is an earnest request to all my readers of this article who have a rediffmail account and they depend solely on it: please for heaven’s sake switch over to some other reliable account or else it might prove to be extremely disastrous that I found out the real hard way recently.
In spite of being an ex employee of Indiatimes, I preferred to open an account with Rediffmail (hard core competitor of Indiatimes ) in July this year as at that time I perceived it to be more reliable than my previous employer. Little did I know at that time that this bloody rediffmail will be solely responsible to snatch my bread and butter since last 3 months!!
After being forced to quit my marketing job at Indiatimes due to severe hepatitis, I decided to start something on my own. Being a diehard fan and a singer of old Hindi and Bengali songs, I made an elaborate research for 3 months to compile a software which would convert all the songs on the gramophone records( which used to rule the roost from the 40s to mid 80s) and more lately audio cassettes to digitally remastered audio CDs. Quite naturally the first step of my promotion was to create a dedicated email id which would receive all my trade enquiries and despite severe financial crisis.
I decided to pull out some money to publish my ad in the local market informer with this email id ( in rediffmail) as the sole point of contact. Before promoting my ad in the magazine, I did some concept selling to understand the acceptability of my service in the market which proved to be enormously encouraging! As my ad was supposed to cover a huge area, I was quite optimistic about the response but to my utter shock and dismay , the results were far from being satisfactory! I still did not loose hope and started pasting my banners in all the major Durga Puja pandals held in CR Park, Delhi recently. To my further disappointment, this time also the results were not that much encouraging.
The mystery of this lackluster response unfolded only yesterday when one of my friend had to send me an urgent mail from her gmail account and I had a specific time frame to forward that mail to others. I waited for nearly three hours after my friend confirmed that the mail had been sent, but it was yet to make an appearance in my rediff mailbox. Utterly frustrated.
I requested my friend to resend that mail to my old warhorse, my indiatimes id which promptly received the mail within a few seconds. I sensed that there is some compatibility issue of rediffmail with gmail which was confirmed after I opened a new gmail account and sent a test mail to my rediffmail account 2 hours back and at the time of writing this review it is yet to arrive in my rediff account!! I realized that I have done an irreversible blunder in relying too much on rediffmail as I could very well understand how much prospective business I have lost because now a days the most widely used email id is undoubtedly gmail which unfortunately has been barred from entering my rediff id probably because of some of their technical fault!!
Yeserdays incident not only highlighted the non compatibility of rediffmail with gmail but it also left us to wonder that there might as well be other email service providers which are also not compatible with rediffmail which on the whole explains the poor response to my ad !!
