What do you expect when your see the names like writer Anees Bazmee & director Neeraj Vora combines together? I expected a laugh riot.
Anil Kapoor has acted in many remakes of South Indian films, Nayak, Jeevan Ek Sangharash, Rakhwala, etc to name a few. This time he preferred to produce SHORT KUT, which is again a remake of a Malayalam film.
Most of his remade films as an actor were flop at the box office & luck doesn’t seem to be in his favour as a producer of this film as well.
I find it hard to believe that the writer & directors are the same people who have written & directed some nice successful comedies in the past.
The film is about the story of two strugglers.
Arshad Warsi - a struggling actor, who wants to succeed & the method is short cut, where as Akshay Khanna, who is a struggling director but believes in the saying there is no short cut to success.
Akshay Khanna gets an offer to write & direct a film. Arshad Warsi steals his script & sells it to a producer, who makes a film with him in the lead role. The film clicks & Arshad becomes a star.
Amrita Rao, a star, is in love with Akshay & gets married to him, which doesn’t work well & she leaves him.
Akshay gets an offer from the same prodcer who produced the film on his script, who now wants him to write & direct a film with Arshad Warsi in the lead.
From here on SHORT KUT disappoints a BIG TIME. The writing is so amateurish that you begin to wonder, what is the role of a writer in a film like this?
The climax was a shock to me. Can it really happen? If yes, then WOW to it.
Since the film talks about the strugglers, had the writing been good & effective, it could have given the viewers the inside look of the film industry. Watch out for the greed of Amrita Rao’s family.
When was the last time you got irritated? Chunky Pandey & Ali Asghar irritates you to death with their sickening performances in this film.
Arshad Warsi looks to be over confident about his performance, as it is of no great shakes this time & looks like a repeat of one of his previous film. Amrita Rao looks good though.
Shankar, Ehsan, Loy seems to be on the same wave length that of the write & director, hence gave a below average music, though Javed Akhtar has written nice https://lyrics. Example - Kal 9 baje tum chaand dekhna.
Anees Bazmee & Neeraj Vora should get 1 out of 10 for their work in the film.
Akshay Khanna is the only positive thing about Short Kut, who tries hard to save the film with his committment. But can one positive save it from uncountable negatives? NO.
2 stars just for Akshay Khanna.
I did not like the film, but please feel free to watch it if you intend to.
