I’ve been away for so long that my writing could possibly be rusty by now, lol, oh well! This time around, I am starting new. I have been thinking of deleting my account then open a new one but I don’t want to put to waste my past reviews. To make this short, I just want to write again and hopefully it will bring back my excitement and passion for writing. Okay back to topic, “Should Internet Content Be Censored.”
Why would a person agree on Internet content censoring where in fact the net has so many advantages? Individuals are mainly using the net for various reasons. Below I will explain the benefits that people get from Internet including netiquettes, definition of the word censor, and thoughts in general..
What does the Internet represents? It’s a so-called World Wide Web, which is vast in information with a single of a click you can get numerous search results. It’s amazing that we could find anything we want online. People flock on the net because it serves as a tool to express ones creativity. Not only that, you can save money or two just by researching information online instead of buying books, which also helps save the environment from polluting waste paper. I have so many hobbies that it’s not easy going around making them happen because they cost money. The Internet made my hobbies a reality. I wanted to make my own music and let others hear them and the only way I can do that and is cheaper is to do that online. Since I’m not a famous artist I can still practice my skills in sketching by drawing objects and submitting them online.
Now with these kind of advantages comes with responsibilities it’s called netiquettes. Combination of two words, “Net and Etiquette.” It’s a just basic guideline for Internet users to behave in acceptable manners. This in turn will help make a pleasant environment online.
Examples of how netiquette is applied in cyber world:
Acronyms are used when chatting. Some of them are: BTW (by the way); ROTFL (rolling on the floor laughing); FAQ (frequently asked questions); B4N (bye for now); AAMOF (as a matter of fact), and so on and so forth. Some of these are basic and familiar.
Using emoticons (showing emotions). : ) smile, :-) happy, :P teasing, :-o shocked/surprised.
Try to be in a state of calmness even if you are in a situation of heated discussion. It’s not uncommon to misunderstand what you read of the meaning of what he/she posted.
To truly decipher the word “Censored, ” I’ve taken the time to look it up from an online dictionary. Censored is a word, which means, “to examine in order to delete anything considered objectionable.” The question is, is it really necessary to take these measures? Can’t one think of other options before doing this? Why can’t information online just be left untouched? It’s simple yet quite complicated probably because it’s just a subjective matter.
Now, if we indeed omit things online what will happen? We’ll be partly deprived of knowledge and experience. And how can we benefit from them if they are deleted. The basic idea of Internet is information sharing and not having that is just plain absurd. Think about it, censoring information on the web does make you think like “where is the freedom of thought, expression, and the like.” This whole idea of Internet censoring is just appalling and ridiculous. It isn’t necessary to censor the Internet content. Knowing myself, I rather have information readily available to me without restrictions.
In conclusion, the Internet always has been a place for all types of people, different backgrounds intelligence and the ones who finds comfort from the harsh reality of life and calls the net home. Being on Internet has given people privileges to express themselves fully to the extent. To have satisfied people and non-unhappy must we changed all that?
