Bring him Back

Sourav Ganguly is the man who turned our struggling team into a world class team in the space of 5 years. He is our most succesful captain. I’m not saying make him captain, but he definitely merits a place in the team.

When he was playing extremely well for Bengal and East Zone, the selectors did not give him a chance. They took all his confidence away. He was dropped after the Karachi Test, he made two scores over 30. He scored more runs than Rahul, Sachin, Veeru and Laxman, so why was he dropped?

Their was no case for dropping him, he would have played extremely well against the english, especially against his nemesis flintoff.

I’m sure he has a chance to come back into the team now that we have a good selector. Dilip Vengsarkar has brought Kumble and Zaheer, two excellent decisions, Dada might be brought back. Kiran More is perhaps one of the worst selctors in the world.

First, Ganguly should be given a chance against South Africa in the test series, and his test performance should be the bench-mark for his inclusion intot he World Cup Team.

Remember we are talking about a player who ahs the second highest number of hundreds in ODI’s after Sachin. He is one of the few players who has scored over 10, 000 ODI runs. His opening partnership with Sachin is the most destrucive ever.

Sourav and Rahul broke Azhar’s and Jadeja’s record partneship in ODI’s in 1999. Ofcourse that was later broken by Rahul and Sachin later in 1999, but that partnership is the second biggest in terms of runs. Sourav scored his best ODI score in that match, 183.

In short, Sourav Ganguly should be back in the team.
