Introduction
Shrek 2 is the followup to the hugely successful fairy tale of an Ogre Shrek. Frankly at the end of that movie, I did not think a sequel would be in the offing... Then when Shrek 2 eventually released and started knocking off some impressive numbers, yours truly decided to give the Green Ogre a second look...
The Plot
The plot this time is set far away from the huge dragon tower, in the land called Far Far Away which happens to be Fionas(voiced by Cameron Diaz) home town.
So after a lovely and happy honey moon Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) and Fiona return back home to find the Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy) waiting for them. Suddenly there arrives royal summons from the King and Queen of Far Far Away who want to see their daughter and her new husband. So the newly wed Fiona and a reluctant Shrek accompanied by a noisy irrating Donkey make the journey to Far Far Away.
The royal pair make a grand entry, only problem the public is shocked out of their wits on seeing an Ogress and an Ogre. The king and queen too are stunned...
But the person most stunned happens to be the Fairy Godmother(voiced by Jennifer Saunders) of Fiona. She and the king had a pact long long time ago that Fiona would marry her son Prince Charming (voiced by Rupert Everett). So the king who is afraid of Fairy Godmother, sets Puss on Boots (voiced by Antonio Banderas) to take out Shrek. But Puss falls Boots line and sinker for Shrek and decides to back him up in his quest against the fairy godmother.
What happens next? Nah!! I wont tell you that, you better watch it and enjoy it ;)
Performances
Although Mike Myers has done an excellent job with the voice of Shrek, the showstopper has to be the Donkey Eddie Murphy. The graphics animation team needs a pat on the back to give the Donkey the very famous Eddie Murphy all teeth smile :)
Cameron Diaz shows there is more to her that what is seen on the screens of her movie, with her voice. She dazzles as the voice of Fiona.
The rest of the crew are also very efficient, with the fairy godmother putting up as the irritating villain of the show.
The music is excellent and adds to the movie experience. The animation is excellent and the eye to details has to be commended.
Summary
In the final analysis, I would give Shrek 2 a 4 star rating. The movie is nice little animated comedy.
