Who is Michael Moore? . I know he is the controversial guy created F9/11 the documentry about 9/11 . He is a publicity seeking maniac. He is over rated, he is doing all this for his own sake.
It was my perception untill yesterday. untill I saw another masterpiece from him i.e. SICKO . and my perception is changed it not because I met him but its the subject of the movie which I think is enough of saying him as good man.
Sicko is a documentry about Health care System . specially American version of it.
Sicko starts with People showing the heavy cost of small treatment they receive.
A man with two finger chopped asked to deposit 72000 Dollars yes it is Seventy two thousand dollars for the two fingers but he could afford only 12000 so we gets his ring finger back. my god its scary.
Then the who healthcare system is being explored by Moore. Here are some of the points he gave emphasis upon:-
Tele Caller:- The telecaller for a medical insurance company shown confessing that how they feel when they know that the patient is about to get a shocking news of rejection of expenses.
Error Finder:- They call him muscle man and he is the man suc*ing all the errors even the smallest one made by Person while filling the form of claiming the money.
Victim from hospital Staff:- A staff of a medical hospital shown crying about the death of his own husband due to ignorance of the hospital asking for a expensive treament.
Lies of all kind:- They lie to you in all forms to tell you that your not going to get money back from them. Also shown the unethical treatment of patients.
Giving false medication:- Some patients were shown telling how Medical insurance fooled them by giving cheap irrelevent treatment.
79 year old working:- A 79 old man is working to get his pills from his employer.
Confessions:- All the confessions of the culprits the real people are shown right there and a big fish also shown confessing the death of a person because of her.
History:- Old audio tapes showing how they privatised a state affiar of healthcare.
Government:- Even the govenment and members of the congress are purchased by Drug dealers.
Canada:- Several Americans shown going to Canada for cheap treament
ADD:- Canadians getting insurance even for few hours visit to the US as they are really scared getting treated in US as it may cost 500 times.
These are major points shown in first half of the movie then the movie starts to explore the countries which are above US in health care and thier functioning.
*Some countries like Canada, UK, France visited by Moore to explore their functioning and he was shell shocked to see people getting everything for almost free in these countries. I like all the facts shown specially France where you get 5 weeks of paid leave and 35 hours a week.
In the end of the movie Moore shows the condition of Fire Fighters in the 9/11 and the poor health condition of them. Even the prisoners in Guantanamo Bay gets better treatment gets better treated than their war heroes. Then Moore decides to take all of them in the end of the movie to **Guantanamo Bay which is actually in cuba but not allowed to enter so he decides to go to Cuba which is a country being described as monster by American rulers.
The people with Moore gets the treament 400 times more cheper in Cuba than US and they all shown crying on this fact.
In the end Moore gave emphasis upon the power of WE over ME. .if you are paying your taxes then how can you denied your treatment just because you are not rich.
But being an Indian why am I so much interested in the movie that I understand all the details?
As the movie beings I started relating it to India where as of now the treatment is cheap comparatively but it is mostly unaffordable for majority of the people.
The government run hospital is full of people where as Private hospital is too expensive for poor.
The medical insurance is slowly increasing its reach in India but are they really helpful? Are thy going to fool us in the same way as in US?
The movie is a thought provocative and I was thanking god million times for Giving me India as my home country not US where getting ILL is tougher than Dying.
