Well ...how did I get this phone??? I never intended buying a Siemens but I was in Canada and there was a promo going on........ phone for just 25 Canadian Dollars!!! I could not believe it (plus some airtime to be purchased as well)...overall the deal was real cheap since at that time the phone cost Rs 10, 000 in India.
My overall experience... Pleasant...just read comments below....
ADVANTAGES
Sleek, good looking
MMS, GPRS, (basically all works MINUS infra-red and blue-tooth)
polyphonic ringtones
attachable camera (sold separately), 4096 colours
good battery life (Talk time of 2-2.5 hours)-Lithium ion battery
LIGHT WEIGHT
short charging time....gets charged under 1 hour
Data cable can be purchased for Rs 600 in grey market (nokia data cable costs easily 2500-3000 Rupees)
DOES NOT lose signal, good clarity...I could download 1.7 GB data on my laptop in 45 days time...yes its true downloads, mp3, etc- all can be downloaded if you have the appropriate internet pack from provider (I prefer Airtel GPRS)
SIEMENS DATA SUITE can be downloaded free of cost from siemens website (careful, 35 MB download!!!)
POP settings within phone - if you have internet on thru your provider, and a pop account, then u can retrieve mail with touch of a button. Mail gets stored in memory and can be transferred to MS OUTLOOK on home computer via the siemens data suite software.
DISADVANTAGES
no infra red or bluetooth
Not a good value for money
Better Siemens phones available in market ( for example C55 is better than M55)
Better brands available (nokia just cut its cost 2 days ago - 6610 is available for just 8500 with bill and all sorts of guarantees)
Overall, it was a good experience.
