I am a new subscriber
of Sify Broadband connection. After reading almost all the comments here, I was
about to dump the idea of taking the service of Sify. But fortunately, my
better half insisted on taking a broadband connection at the earliest, and
getting no other alternative, I had no way out but to take the connection with
a fearful mind.
Earlier I was using internet connection through Reliance Infocom (Freedom @
night). But since the charge of phone calls made through the mobile phone
was high and I wanted to get internet connection though out the day, I
unsubscribed from the service. In my area (JP Nagar 1st Phase, Bangalore), I could not
get service from any other provider.
Seeing an advertisement in the newspaper, I sent an SMS to Airtel, who called
me back for the query after about 5 days. And then I was annoyed the most with
them as they did not even have the courtesy to inform me that their service was
unavailable in that area, even after gathering all the information from me.
Almost the same happened with "YOU", who did not reply to my SMS.
At last, I found that a Sify service provider is very near to my house. So, I
met them one night at around 9.30 pm. The next day, a young guy came to meet
me. Although he did not want to disclose all the plans (for whatsoever reason),
he was courteous enough. By that time, I had gathered knowledge about all the
plans available from the internet. I still wanted to verify with some other
providers to check if their service was available there. But this yielded no
result. So, finally after a few days, I applied for the connection from Sify. I
opted for the 128 kbps plan with night surfing free (unlimited upload/ download
during 10 pm to 8 am and 150 MB from 8 am to 10 pm). The marketing executive
told me that I shall get the connection within the next 5 days.
On the morning of the 3rd day, I called him to remind that only two days are
left for me to get the connection and I had not yet got the verification call
from Chennai, which he said was mandatory before getting the service. He
assured me that I shall get the call that day by evening.
In the evening, I got the call from Chennai. To my surprise, after one hour of
getting this call, that marketing executive called me to know if I was at home.
I told him that I shall be available at around 9 pm. After returning home at 9
in the night, I called him again and within half an hour, they came with the
required cables and other things. And my broadband was working!!!
I was really surprised to see their sincerity. But there was still more in
store for me.
Unfortunately after a few days of getting the broadband connection, my system
crashed (not due to any fault from the broadband, I suppose) and I had to
format the whole system. I did not know how to set up the connection again. So
I called the service provider near to my house. He told that the engineer from
Sify will come to my house that evening. But in the evening, I was not at home
and informed them beforehand that it would be better if they came on the next
day (Saturday).
It was a holiday
on that Saturday due to Ganesh Chaturthi. Still I called them again reminding
that they were supposed to come to my house. After one hour or so, they came
and set up the broadband again and from then it is still working.
Till now, I have
visited mouthshut.com many times, but this is my first writing. I decided to
write only because I felt that most of the satisfied users are not writing here
and hence some of the customers like me may unnecessarily get scared.
To be very frank,
I am very happy with their service and I hope that this continues. As some of
the other users have written here (the engineer from Sify who came to install
the broadband for the first time, also reiterated the same), the service
depends on the third party, through whom you are subscribing. Fortunately till
now, they have proved to be very helpful.
The internet
connection speed is also good enough. I have not tested the speed in any site.
And I am aware that according to the rules, 128 kbps can not be considered as a
broadband connection. But still whatever I am getting at home is sufficient for
chatting, small file sharing, mailing and general surfing. I have never been
able to cross 30 MB during day-time. At night, I do the necessary downloads.
All good things
said, I should also mention one bad thing about Sify. Their installation charge
is non-refundable and if you change your location to a place where this third
party does not have coverage, even if you want to stick with Sify, you have to
pay the installation charge once again. E.g. – If you are a subscriber of Sify
in Bangalore and relocate to Delhi, you will have to pay the installation
charge again to get the service of Sify.
This is totally
my personal experience. I have myself seen my colleagues crying over the
pathetic service of Sify in some other parts of Bangalore. So, if you want to take a
broadband connection, inquire about the service in your area only and then
decide.
