I have been using SIFY for a real long time. I must saysometimes when I look back at things over the years of experience with them Isometimes wish I was born in the second world war era and lived in theconcentration camps. I must say I am being fairly strong in my choice of wordsbut that’s the extent to which I have tolerated their service.


Ihave not been in town for the last 3 weeks and got back just today. I accessedthe internet for about 5 hrs in the day. I went out and there happened to be aslight drizzle and that was the end of my online time with SIFY. So at about5:00 in the evening I decide to give them a complaint and surprisingly I getthrough to their phone line. (Remember the KBC days I guess getting through toKBC was easier). So I tell them the usual BB101 error, which states that I amunable to reach the gateway. This is a fairly serious problem I must say. Italways happens because their cables and infrastructure has been so poorlyinstalled that even the slightest breeze wrecks their network. Before the daysof the Internet I used to curse the electricity company because the power usedto be down for 3-4 hours. But the Sify guys just want to surpass this.


Anywaysgetting back to my story I complained at 5:00pm and happened to go out and Itried logging in at 10:00 Pm. And there I had the same problem of not beingable to log in. So I call up Sify customer care (I guess BSNL shall be gladbecause I work up quite a bill calling up the Sify guys. Sometimes I wonder ifSify and BSNL have a contract) and they say that all the customer careexecutives are busy and the system asks me to leave my ph number and the systempromises to call me back in an hour. I think the Sify employees are pretty goodEinstein followers. They just don’t seem to realize an hour has passed. I guessthey were busy doing some time travel experiments rather than worry abouttrivial matters like their network being down. So I try calling a lot of timesand I always end up with the same message. So I finally get through after about2 hours. I ask the guy what the problem is and how long it will take toresolve. He says 12 working hours. So by now I am fairly agitated and I ask himif the power ever went for so long and he doesn’t say a thing. Then I ask himwhether I will get compensated.


Snapcomes the reply that I will be compensated. But he says I will be compensatedonly after the issue is resolved. Also I have to call them up for mycompensation. Their rules for compensation are that if the Internet is down formore than 12 hours only then I am entitled for compensation. Anyways since I amfurious I tell the guy that I want my compensation right away. So he says thathe will transfer me to the compensation team. The guy doesn’t even give mycomplaint number. In the evening also when I lodged the first complaint he didnot give me a complaint number. So my frustration is coming down hoping to talkto the compensation team and hear what they have to say. So I hear thecompensation team phone ringing and I am working up my fury to scream at themand vent out the agony that I am going through. And there comes the anti climaxthe phone rings for a while and there is no answer and I am promised that theSify automatic response that they will call me back in an hour. I call themagain and this time I ask another customer care executive if this is how anyservice is run. He did not say anything. At least he was courteous unlike theother two customer care executives. I think they should be called customerscare executioners.


Puttingall the sarcasm and extremity aside Sify is the worst ISP that I have dealtwith. I have been a fool to have their connection for the last 2 years alwaysin the hope that things would improve. This has been their performance over along time and they have been consistently incompetent. So you could rather goback in time to the concentration camps to avoid such brutality. (Sify willhelp u with the time travel. Remember they don’t have a clue when an hour haspassed). Its very sad that in India consumer laws are so weak. If Sify were inthe US they would be sued and bankrupt in no time. Anyways its time to moveaway from Sify and campaign against such a crime. It’s outright cheating andswindling. Money is not the issue. Its just time and patience that is lost. Soits sayonara Sify. My appeal to all who have been patient to read this is thatnever go for Sify and please let as many people know to avoid such agony.


Theresolve to the issue happens at 16:30 hours the next day after calling them alot of times. I called up the customer care executive and said I will not putthe phone down till he let me speak to someone in Hyderabad. He said he couldnot give me their number because he did not have it. I asked him if he can giveme the address of the franchisee and he said he did not have those details andthat they communicated with their franchisees over the internet. Looks liketheir internal network too was down. So thaths


PS : I may sound sarcastic but Ithink I have been mild with the Sify ruffians.
