First time in Delhi was organized a Fair by Sikkim state government. The Fair was organized at " The Garden of Five Senses" in New Delhi on 10th and 11th January, 2009. The Mela was one of its kind and gave a look of the Sikkim state inside.
The look was indeed very very beautiful. All covered with rare species flowers and plants which could grow in that state’s climate only were available for display there. The flowers were so beautiful that I once thought to buy one of the flowers pot for planting in my garden. But the person who was taking care of that told that even if I take the flowers home, they will not flourish as the climate of Delhi is not suitable for them.
Also, when I asked the cost of those flowers, I was taken aback. Each flower-pot was costing between Rs. 2000/- to Rs. 5000/- depending on the species. The folk dance from the state was too good. The once which I saw used the yak dance (man wearing yak animal skins) which was too good. The food that was available there was all Sikkim state food. Nothing Delhite.
I tried two or three dishes, but could not eat much. The taste of those was completely different and mostly the North Indians will not like it much as the food is not at all spicy as we normally like. It was very plain with salt and much of boiled type. The oil which was used in food was altogether different. I do not know which oil they used but it tasted and smelled very different. After this I also strolled and walked through the Garden ofFive senses along with my family.
The Garden is too big and beautiful. At one end of the garden was a Delhi’s winter carnival organised. It was all like delhi festivals with jewellary, modern clothes, and eatables. Overall it was a good day for me with an insight about Sikkim and it grew in my mind the desire to visit in the beautiful valleys of Sikkim once. I will make my plan and go once there may be in my next holidays.
