I have been flying airlines for quite some time. But last month I wanted to go to Delhi and decided to take a low cost airline like Deccan/Spice jet.
I got my ticket on the net for Deccan Air. It was an evening flt at around 1700 hrs from Mumbai to Delhi.
First thing noticed was the ground staff was not at all groomed properly. Though they went about their work of issuing Boarding Pass quite well but lack grace, actually no class compared to Jet/Kingfisher. The fly was delayed by almost 45 minutes but here was no announcement after the boarding pass was issued. Once the flight was announced passengers rushed to the exit, to board the bus resulting in uncontrolled commotion. As there were no Seats allotted, passengers were rushing to get the best seats, resulting in a total chaos in the plane also.
The flt took off and the brought in food trolleys and stuff was available but for a price. the menu was totally un appealing. There were chips, cakes and soft drinks/juices, no tea or coffee, considering that it was an evening flight.
Noticed a few things;
Many were first time flyers,
There were mainly families
There was no corporate traveler
Deccan airways has really brought flying within the reach of Aam Admi and hats off to them and congratulations
But that does not mean that the passengers should not be treated in an dignified manner. For seats are not allotted and passengers end up running for the best place. Allotment of seats with boarding pass or during booking of tickets on the net will not add to the cost and will allow passengers to board the flight without any hassles.
Inform passengers of delays (Deccan Airways are known to be late)
Groom the ground staff well, it does make a difference.
But on the whole it is a good experience to fly at half the cost of jet and IA

The Govt has announced that allotment of seats prior to boarding will be made compulsory shortly. Thats good news and one pain area removed (even if not done by Deccan Air)
