Air Deccan has brought in a revolution to Indian aviation.....
I have been flying since I was a small kid. At those times a one way ticket from Calcutta to Guwahati used to cost as little as Rs. 400, and I had to shell out only Rs. 200 as I used to get student concession.
Air Deccan has brought back those good old days .... Since its launch, I have travelled many a times by Air Deccan (except for official trips) and have helped my other family members, relatives and friends to buy affordable tickets.
There have been a lot of complaining by anybody and everybody, even those who have probably flown once or twice in their entire life, about Air Deccans bad service, delayed / cancelled flights, and what not. The fact I am trying to state here is that we are always so eager to point out a deficiency instead of efficiency. This attitude really pains me as I feel Air Deccan has made life so much easier for people like us.
Since 1999, I had taken to travelling by train as the flight tickets had become so prohibitive. Just a few years back due to an emergency, I remember shelling out Rs. 9000 for a one way ticket from Guwahati to New Delhi for a Jet Airways flight. The last time I travelled on the same route by an Air Deccan flight, it cost me a mere Rs. 3, 400. I have even travelled on the same route for as low as Rs. 1600. Can any other airline beat that ?
So, what if you have to buy your food inside the flight. Airline food is not really something to look forward to anyway. Is this something to complain about ?
Delays / cancelled flights ?? Let me tell you, I and my family menbers take about 12-15 flights each year and till date there has been only once case of cancelletion. As for delayed flights, I do agree that flights get delayed, but it is the case with almost all Airlines. The blame is supposed to go to the Airport Authorities, as due to congestion the flights sometimes have to circle the airport for almost an hour. Now tell me, if a flight arrives late then how can it leave on time ? Hopefully with the upgrading of airports this problem of delays would become less of a problem.
Also, please keep in mind that every delay / cancelled flight costs the Airline a lot money. I am sure the Airlines dont deliberately cause delays and cancellations just to run into losses. The Airlines probably try very hard to reduce delays / cancellations, but some things just cannot be controlled by the Airline, like Airport Authority, weather, etc..
I also hope people are aware that Air Deccan is yet to show profits for all their efforts. But they are Indias 2nd ranked Airline and their stocks are doing great currently.
The only major major drawback I think is Air Deccans website. Thank god they have finally managed to buy the domain name https://airdeccan.com. But their servers are too damn slow and are in great need of a major upgrade. Buying a ticket from the website is really really a great pain. Sometimes I feel like pulling out my hair on seeing the speed at which things move. Infact this has once caused my credit card to be billed twice (though I got back my money without a hassle). Also, I hope their call center executives aould use a little more cheerfulness while speaking to customers.
