I flew with Air Deccan from Bangalore to Delhi and back in mid January. While the climatic conditions during that time of the year are bad, I was apalled at the lack of information regarding the delays the ground staff of Air Deccan had.As is my drill when flying low-cost airlines, I enquired about the departure of the airline at both Bangalore and Delhi and at both places I was told that it is "on-time".
Even after sec-check there was no indication of any delay until suddenly the "bad news" broke out on the TV screens. The flight was to depart at 8:30 am but the delays went like this:1st reschedule : 9:30 am2nd reschedule : 10:45 am3rd : 12 noontake-off : 12:30 pmI had booked train tickets for onward journey from Delhi, and anticipating delay I had kept a margin of 2.5 hrs.
However, I reached railway station one hour after that train’s departure, and had to travel in the local class of another train.When returning from Delhi, it was a similar experience. In mid-flight, the pilots on both occasions briefed us about the reason for delay, and those were genuine reasons. However, the ground staff were uninformed and insensitive to the whole situation.I have made it a resolution that barring emergency situations, I will not fly Air Deccan again. A few thousand rupees discount doesn’t make up for the harrowing experience.
