Finished my engineering here and been to the most beautiful places with friends during my studies.(2007) and 2011 with family.
Sindhudurga district is located in south Maharashtra and is a part of Maharashtras Konkan Region with some of the extra ordinary beaches and places to visit.Mentioning below the places I have visited and explored so far.
Sindhudurga Fort-
The centre of attraction for most of the tourist here is the strategic Sindhudurga Fort built by Shivaji the Great in 16th century.A huge fort can be visited via boat and takes around minimum 2 hours to explore.Sadly the government has not been able to retain its beauty. The maintenance work was going on but not upto the mark. The are people who still live in fort who can share the historical importance with you.
Tarkarli Beach- Most exotic beach I have visited.Crystal clear waters and yes you see fishes in the water.Walk to the end of the and you will see the a river meeting the sea.you can easily distinguish between the sea water and river water. Water sports are carriied out in river instead of Sea.You can also find shells on the beach and star fishes(if visited in december)
Snorkeling & Scuba Diving- The crystal clear lets you explore the beauty beneath the waters. There are variety of fishes and flora fauna beds .with colourful coral reefs.
Harmal & Keri beach- Sindhdurga actually shares it border with Goa.The nearest beaches to the Goa are Harmal & Keri.If photography is your interest do carry your DSLR to this places. The beaches are unexplored and cannot match the beauty of beaches in Goa, or Malaysia. There is also a ferry service which will take to the Tirakhol Fort in Goa.(I guess now there is a bridge)
Accommodation- Not a worry. There is a MTDC resort and the Malwan beach is right behind the resort. You can have your morning cup of tea with the beautiful sunrise and beach.Lately many resorts are available and understanding the demand the locals have invested in providing places to stay for families with good facilities like AC/NON ac rooms, Home made food.etc.
Food- Do you crave for non-veg? are you a fisheterian?Malwan is the right place to be. Bangra and Pomfret and Prawns made in malwani masala is really lips smacking.
Whenever we visited the these places I every time felt that there is something yet to explore.ITake your own time to explore the nature here.Recently heard of two new unxplored beaches in the Sindhudurga, named, Nivati and Bhogwe.
With so much beauty and potential for tourism, I pitty on the state goverment that the development are pretty slow in the region.
