Ive now been to Singapore twice, the first was for 3 days which was fantastic, great site seeing of all the popular places, the 2nd was for 3 weeks. During my 3 week stay, I explored outside of the "tourist" areas, and was shocked to learn of the conditions and disrespect the "foreign workers" have to live under.
I spoke to countless number of "helpers/maids" paid very cheap, work extremely long hours, unfairly treated, and exploited due to their own countries suffering from hardship. The same goes for the construction workers, which spoke open and honesty regarding their situations, some oh whose only receive around $700 per month and live in poor conditions. Any country that adopted a slave labour culture and does not pay a minimum wage, whereby the workforce are treated with disrespect of the highest level, is a country that I would never want to visit again.
