Anees Bazmee and Akshay Kumar had a laugh riot last year in "Welsome". The promos were very well packaged. The reviews were also encouraging. Alas, if only the movie had lived up to the hype.
To be fair, the movie does start on a promising note. The destruction wreaked by the ever-smiling do-gooder Happy Singh, brilliantly played by Akshay Kumar, was fun to watch. The events thereafter leading to Happys departure had enough laughter-inducing moments. So far so good. It is here that the movie goes downhill.
Probably, years ago, Anees Bazmee must have watched Jackie Chans "Mr. Canton and Lady Rose" also titled "Miracles", and laughed his heart out and got a belly-ache. He decided that it was a good movie to remake. If only he would have retained the same scenes, and the fun-quotient. Where "Miracles" was a laugh-riot, and filled with superb action, Singh is Kinng has neither.
Akshay Kumar excels in both, comedy as well as action, and his chemistry with both Om Puri and Katrina is excellent. Sonu Sood as Lucky and Ranvir Shorey as Katrinas fiance are competent. Kirron Kher does a good turn as the Rose Lady. Rest of the cast is also quite good.
The music is ok. nothing worth remembering, except the line - Singh is kinng, which is hummable.
Only if Anees Bazmee had taken the pains to develop the script better.
Go watch "Mr Canton and Lady Rose" and youll never want to watch Singh is Kinng ever again.
