I was given this album at Christmas by my 24yr old son.My first reaction was Who the hell is this? I`d never heard of the artiste nor had I any idea why my lad should think that I`d want or like it.
He assured me that I would like it as you like That sort of music whatever that meant. Well, I am a big fan of Vonda Shepard so I was prepared to humour him and give it a play. Who knows, I thought, it might be O.K. You never know.
Well, bless his little cotton socks( size 12 in his case) for within seconds I was captivated by the sounds emanating from the speakers.
As each track played I was more and more pleased by what I was listening to. I could not believe that this had been recorded by someone who, at that time was only 17 years old.
The entire album is full of excellent tracks that soon had me wanting to listen to the next one but at the same time disappointed when one had to finish.I must have played the tape of this continuously in the car for days on end at first.I didn`t seem to be able to tire of it.
She has a great voice that I consider will only get better with time. Some critics have written that her material is not always up to standard but we can say this of many artists.
There is such a diverse selection of music here , it`s obvious that its drawn upon many different genre for its inspiration. One of my favourites is Purple Rain. You may know this as a Prince song but LeAnn Rimes managed to turn it into something special! Many critics of hers really slate this cover version although I love it.
It`s full of genuine country pop and I don`t think that any fan of this music will be disappointed. It does have many faults but I for one am prepared to forgive and just accept it in its entirety.
LeAnn has now reached the ripe old age of 19 and I for one can`t wait for more tracks in the style ofMore That Anyone Deserves or Looking Through Your Eyes.
