I finally managed to watch the movie and its high time to make some critical observations about the movie
Sivaji the boss is yet another attempt by shankar to give a social message .. a dream .. a fantasy to bring about the much needed change in India , a corrupt free , developed and prosperous India.. His messages are generally crisp and catchy but this one lacked the usual punch and luster!!!probably he took a lighter route this time around as the movie starred the superstar.
Well I guess even if it was just a shankar film and the superstar acting in it , the movie would have anyway rocked as the combination on any given day would have been deadly boasted by the music of rahman .. kv ananths cinematography .. and the banner AVM..and I sincerely mean even without the hype.. I guess the hype had only meant that they had invested lot of money making this movie and they needed to advertise to reap the benefits nothing more.. I guess Hype can be a monster but onethg is for sure when you watch a Rajini movie you know what to expect!!!.. So the best advise to an average movie watcher is .. Sivaji is a masala with loads of spices which can be hot and sour at times.. neverthless go for the movie only if u like traditional masala movies for fun and time pass..
well the story has been revealed in all other reviews yet in crisp its about an NRI who wants to invest his hard earned money for the poor by building universties and hospitals and giving free treatment and knowledge.. well the plot in the first half gets diluted midway so does the heros ambition and finds himself with just a rupee coin .What happens from there on is the plot in the second half..
The first half is packed with good songs and comedy tracks and keeps the audience laughing. The break comes as a relief as it gives ample time to refresh your energies to see the action packed second half.. The climax is kool but not gripping but then rajini does his magic to woo the audience in the spell be it sivaji or as mgr .. Kuddos Rajni!! rocks as mgr .. there are three diffrent phases of rajini from the innocent nri to the criminal to loot all the blackmoney and then the vengence rajini to finish of the villian..
The film is all glandour so rich with costumes and graphics to treat the audience with a visual bonanza .. only concern is if the audience knew what and where all the crores have gone in making of the film then u realise what effort has been taken to entertain them.. surely thottathrini’sets are mind blowing ( an art director is someone who brings and shows unreal thgs to look real) and he does just that.. KVanand .great cinematography and lovely picturaIsation of songs and stunts sequnces. peter ryan and raju sundaram have done there cameos with what they call "stunt choreography in the music gallery and lawrence with his efforts at the Binny mill song sequence.. You wonder whether the film was shot in chennai.. The songs are well picturised .. Editing by antony .. is topnotch the efforts to get the pic perfect to the tempo of the songs all speaks.. and kuddos to all the technicians who back shankar..
shriya would definitly get the break she wanted with this movie and vivek what can u tell of him.. such timing sense with hius dialogues th theaters rocks when he clicks the portico hitting him dialogue.. solomon papaiya and raja have been used well though in portions..
If I had one bad thing to go with the movie that would be .. a very weak script in terms of shankars standards. I still feel mudhalvan had amuch better script ( for the superstar).. Probably he had diluted a bit to accomodate more of rajini for his fans.. I guess that should be the case.. But then with such a star you can afford to excuse him . This movie primarily appears to be all about money making and it could be demanding for people who look out for a good creative cinema as there has been no clear attempt to meet that front .. The movie has all the ingredients to make it more of entertainment value and shankar needs to be praised for that.. But the hard work is clear and I guess if anythg goes unnoticed its just becuase of the presence of the superstar.. all eyes are glewed to him and the rest goes unnoticed. I think a second watch could perhaps attract all the visual effects which we associate with shankar... But then that should be purely on preferance
well all in all its a film made for rajini and then shankar shows glimpses in songs and stunts alone.. thats a pity nevertheless the average rajini fan is happy and so are the masses who pay that small amount to watch the movie.. It may not be Rajinis best tho’’ But dont miss watchin the movie .. rajini ’s magic keeps u spellbound...( provided u dont hate him)
If theres onethg that whole film fraternity looks upto would be is how this ageing Rajni manages to continue giving such flicks.. I guess u can never call the average audience "bad viewers" as these are the same people who make films like autograph a sucess. The only critical aspect would be that its time people appreciate any work without prejudice and for what ever this phenomenon Rajini has achieved I guess even the worst of film critic would bow his head in respect and regard!!!
For Shankar I guess it would have been such a learning experience and I think he should primarily concentrate on his powerful scripts and make no compromises in his future attempts even if he needed to cast the superstar again
