A sign of Ahom Architecture

The Sivadol situated at Sivasagar is one of the oldest and yet robust examples of the great Ahom Dynasty that ruled Assam for 600 years.

We visited the town of Sivasagar last year, as a part of the tour to ancient places. There are several monuments in and around the town that shows the remains of Ahom Kingdom. These monuments such as the Sivadol represent the amazing craft and culture of that era.

It is a temple for worshipping lord Shiva. It is surrounded by a large pond- Siva Sagar pond, which covers a vast area of land.

The Ahom Kings were mighty. They had beaten the Mughal 17 times from entering into the great lands of Assam. History is full of stories of their valour. This temple is a sign of that great era and is a wonderful tourist spot.
