This movie shows the real India - not the "rising", "shining", new "super power" nonsense version but the real India, home to one third of the worlds poor, where the overwhelming majority is living a miserable, wretched existence but somehow in the midst of the grinding poverty, corruption, communalism, and hunger people still survive on hope.
The irony is that this was the directors (Danny Boyle) first trip to India and he showed India for what it was while Indian movies, at least the popular ones, set their camp up in fancy foreign locations. The music is really good too, thanks to Rahman and MIA.
Movie is not suitable for children and has some foul language and a few graphic scenes. The actors were hands down brilliant. The ending could have been a little less perfect but perhaps it serves to cushion the impact of the shocking scenes throughout the movie.
A must see movie of the year.
