Jai Ho

I have been waiting for the Indian release of slumdog millionaire and got to see it this weekend. I came away quite impressed with the way how a director from another country has brought out the essence of Mumbai and its people.

The movie is amazing and is a salute to the spirit of the boy who has slogged his way to become a millionaire. Though we all would like to wish away the dirt and squalor in our city, the truth is more than three fourth of the mumbaikars live in this manner.

The young Jamal fitted the role to the T. The older Jamal, ie Dev Patel looked too polished to be a slum dweller. But, he is a good actor. Anil Kapoor as the host and Irfan Khan as the inspector too were very good. AR Rehman’s music was good of course, but not one of his best. Maybe since it is the first taste to the western world of ARR magic, he has charmed one and all. Gulzar saab’s lyrics for the song Jai Ho was good. Do not miss the titles in the end and the song. Jai Ho to the spirit of Mumbaikars!
