Holy soya!! (can't say holy cow)

Health foods are unlikely to be a rage in this country. We vouch for tasty stuff irrespective of whether they are actually healthy for our bodies. Health foods or food supplements, we reckon are meant for athletes and gym freaks.

Even the average person should eat healthy these days, considering that we are forced to guzzle a lot of junk food most of the time. Sofit soya milk is a great product, if we consider the nutritional benefits. It comes in several flavors, including chocolate, mango and kesar pista. It has an unsweetened version as well suited for diabetics. It is easily digestible as I found out, and when I gave it to a relative with lactose intolerance he had no problems with it.

I checked the nutrition chart on the label and compared it with Amul Taaza double-toned milk. The results are given below.

Sofit(flavoured)          (per 100 ml)                                                                   Amul Taaza

Protein    =3.0g                                                                                      =3.5g

Cholesterol  = 0.0g                                                                                =4.8g

Fat  =1.5g                                                                                                =1.8g

Calcium  = 120mg                                                                                =150mg

Vitamin A= 90mcg                                                                                =75mcg

Fibre  = 2g                                                                                              =0

Vitamin C=6mg                                                                                      =0

Vitamin B12= 0.15mg                                                                          =0

Vitamin B1  =0.18mg                                                                            =0

Vitamin B2  =0.23mg                                                                            =0

Vitamin E  =2.23mg                                                                              =0

Vitamin D  =0                                                                                        =0.75mg

The main downside for Sofit is the price. While Amul Taaza is priced at Rs. 39, Sofit sells at Rs.85 for flavoured version, and Rs.75 for unflavored, all in 1litre packs
