Adam Levine – The Fresh Prince Of Funk

If you have been surfing your TV channels lately, a video of Maroon 5 is sure to have caught our eye. Or maybe you heard them on one of the many, many, many compilations that they were featured on. If not, then what are you waiting for??

Maroon 5 has grown to become on of the most popular bands in recent times. Seemingly, they have also been the most successful. They have the perfect blend of appeal, talent and celebrity, and they are sure seem to have a long way to go.

Here’s a lowdown on how they got started – Adam Levine (vocals/guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards), Mickey Madden (bass), and Ryan Dusick (drums) spent the latter half of the ’90s playing as the modern rock foursome Kara’s Flowers. Later, the disposed their ‘Collage Band’ image, and adapted a whole new outlook in ’99 as Maroon 5 with the addition of guitarist James Valentine. They went on to sign a contract with Octane Records. The rest as they say ‘is history’.

Songs About Jane, was finally released in mid 2002. They also spent most of the year touring with other singers like John Mayer and Jason Mraz. Harder to Breathe was the first single released from this album. This song is perfect to be dedicated to someone whom you want to lash out at, without actually doing so.

This Love is the song that created the most stir on the singles charts, and guaranteed the band a permanent fan base.

She Will Be Loved was released in august that year, and showed a deeper, more syrupy (pardon the adjective) side of the band. It is a song you would expect Hugh grant to sing to Julia Roberts towards the end of Notting Hill .

Sunday morning is sort of a funky, pleasant song. Shiver features some Indian beats. Tangled , The Sun , Must Get Out , only prove how diverse the band can be.

The album also bagged a Grammy for Best New Artist earlier this year.

I highly recommend this album. If I don’t get through to you, the lingering and might I say angelic vocals of Adam Levine will!
