Hi Friends,
Jeffrey Archer is a name that needs no introduction. He is the bestselling author of at least half a dozen novels with huge hits like Kane and Able, Shall we tell the President etc.
Jeffrey Archer writes stories that touch your heart. His novels are filled with emotions ? anger, sorrow, pain, love, joy, envy and deceit. You can find every emotion you want in his stories. At the same time, his novels meet every requirement to be a commercial success ? they are fast, they have gripping plots, amazing twists and turns that satisfy you and are certainly worth your money.
In Sons of Fortune, he has written a tale of two brothers who are separated at the time of their birth but later in their lives ? by the twist of fate ? they have to face each other, rival each other and help each other to survive in this world.
This book is rich in its word count ? with 517 pages in medium fine print ? it is a thick novel to read ? for all of you who think a good novel must be thick. It is divided into seven books in between and every one is well connected with each other.
Two Brothers
Nat Cartwright and Fletcher Davenport are born to the same mother but a spur-of-the-moment decision changes their lives. They are separated and grow up unaware of the existence of each other. They go to different schools, different universities and chose different careers. They keep on proceeding their chosen paths of life until their paths cross one day and one of them ends up defending the other in a high profile criminal trial ? a murder that the other one never committed.
The Twist of Fate
Fletcher Davenport ? only son to a multimillionaire and his high society wife goes on to become a successful criminal defense lawyer. Nat Cartwright ? son to an insurance salesman and his schoolteacher wife ? goes on to become a successful banker. Nat also goes to Vietnam to serve for his country and returns from there a war hero, with a Medal of Honor and as Captain Cartwright.
Later in their lives, both of them decide to go for the Governor of Connecticut and then arrive the moment when they confront each other ? one a Democrat and the other a Republican. Both of them are worthy candidates and they run against each other ? neck and neck.
Let?s come to the point!!!!
See, I don?t think it is good on my part to explain the story for you. There are two reasons for that, one it is too long (517 pages) and second it will spoil the interest. The second reason is what I weighed more than the first.
What is it that you are looking for when you purchase a novel? It must be interesting, gripping, fast paced, thrilling, must have some emotions, must have a strong story and nice plots, nice characters, the works i.e. if you are not looking for something very literary like Shakespeare or Dickens etc.
This one novel just happens to have it all. Okay, it might not be a Da Vinci Code but then Jeffrey Archers is not the genre.
In this novel you have two brothers, their lives, from childhood to adolescence, their girlfriends, their struggle through school and university, their marriages, their careers, failures and setbacks and success. You have a high profile murder trial; you have loads of elections where candidates are playing it fair and ?not-so-fair?. You have a Vietnam War hero returning to college at a Captain?s salary. What more can you ask for if you are looking for a good novel for vacations or may be a long journey or may be a relaxed weekend.
Yes ? this is an ideal novel to read for a long journey or a relaxed weekend or may be to pass a short vacation. It also makes for a very good bed time read. And that?s precisely what?s Archer is all about ? bed time relaxed pass-time reading, nothing serious about it!!
Go for it and enjoy it with may be a Coke this Saturday morning.
Happy Reading,
