Sony Cybershot DSC-S650 Camera - Value For Money

Sony Cybershot DSC-650 Camera - value for money

I was in the market for a new digital camera because I had not upgraded in quite some time. I studied the features of all the cameras in the ten to twelve thousand range and came to the conclusion that Sony offers the best mix of features for the money.

Digital cameras industry is constantly moving forward, and all major digital camera manufactures are forced to come up with new digital camera models every four to six months. But it is very disappointing to see that most of the times the sales people ask when people buy a digital camera "What is your budget?" or "How much you want to spend?"

The sales staff should help the customers to what they really need & make aware of the latest digital cameras. It is always better to ask "What is the intended application for the device you are looking to buy?"

I bought Sony Camera DSC- S650 with the assumption that it is a trustable company & had all around good products. I am have many other Sony products (Television, home stereo, DVD player) and am very happy with the quality.

The Sony DSC S650 is a 7.2 mega pixel starter digital camera. It has a standard three times zoom lens. It is easy to use and likely to appeal to anyone looking for a less expensive camera. So far I have used this camera to take both still and action pictures. Both have come out well.

Ease of use is strength of the camera. Most of the key controls are available through buttons on the back of the camera and also a control dial on the top. The menu system is straightforward and you should be able to find the options you are looking for without to much of a problem.

I also found the Sony website to be helpful in offering free online photography courses to help the user maximize the cameras capabilities while educating on how to take the best possible pictures.

The casual photographer like me needs a camera that is easy to carry and easy to use, so compact and ultra compact cameras make the best choice. These digital cameras are the most useful for taking snapshots anywhere, and can produce nice photos for email, web etc.

If you are looking for something relatively inexpensive digital camera that places the emphasis on picture quality rather than looks and style then the Sony cyber shot digital camera could be the one for you.

Pros :

An ultra-compact digital camera, suited for everyday snapshot photography.

Very light, compact, and pocket-friendly

There is the usual selection of scene modes. These are Twilight, Twilight portrait, Soft snap, Landscape, Beach, Snow and High Sensitivity. By selecting the type of scene you are about to photograph the camera is able to use what it considers to be the optimum settings for the shot.

Shutter speeds and aperture size are controlled automatically.

There is a burst mode. This allows you to take up to three shots at a maximum speed of 1.5 frames per second.

You can also use the self timer when you would like to appear in the shot. The self timer offers a two or ten second delay.

Picture quality is excellent & you can use either AA rechargeable or alkaline batteries

Good price - easy to use - good for starters

Cons :

Shutter lag times with flash.

The flash works up to 3.5m. This falls to 2m when the zoom lens is in use.

Need more definition on photos and view finder - takes too much time to shoot

No zoom mode while capturing video.

Small LCD screen (2in.)

There is 24mb of storage built into the camera. Memory card is not supplied.

Poor video quality & no internal speaker.

Summary :

This entry-level digital camera is an excellent camera. The still picture quality is amazing for such a little unit. It has multiple modes for different lighting, motion and effective redeye reduction.

This camera is suitable for a person who is beginning photography for the first time. Image quality of this camera is not great especially during low light. Only concern that I have with this camera is there is no zoom mode available while taking videos.

Sometimes you do get what you pay for. This camera is a good example. For the price, this is a good choice. If you can spend more money on a better model, then do so.
