Sony Cybershot DSC T70 Review - (my Camera now)

A photo is a retained moment for a future enjoyment for one who wishes to cherish their past.     I am sorry, all who wish to live in their present or future may exit here.  Yes, people who live in present can take their photo, but cannot enjoy it, because the moment you check the photo, it is a past moment.  So, you may only read further if you are ready to accept that there is life in the past as well and you can live it once again.

My purchase of this camera has a direct relation with Mouthshut’s photo adding feature.     Though I like to see pictures and appreciate it’s beauty, I was never a person who got many chance to take photos.   Taking photos and developing them was an expensive hobby and I was a poor man to try such hobbies.   One day, I went for shopping with my close friend over here where he was planning a trip back home.   He is one person who always purchase for higher quality products, when it come to electronics.     He had a plan to purchase a good Camera and we land up with Sheraf Digital in City Centre, Dubai.    No need to tell that he purchased with the latest model of the Sony.  I was in double mind.   Finally, I decided upon DSC-T70 and yes, I am here to tell it all about the camera.

The first attraction for the camera is the Touch Screen.    The camera has the menu accessible by touching the screen is a good feature indeed.  Once we get used to this simple feature we will find it little difficult to cope with other cameras.

The major minus I notice for the camera is its zoom.    3x only!   As I told, I was not much into photography and I came to know the importance of zoom only by using it.  Add some 10X zoom to this camera and I can tell you….it will be rocking.   As of now, I have to satisfy with the little zoom available.

One fantastic benefit I got from purchasing the camera is the software by Sony, in collaboration with Microsoft, which permit me to manage all my photos.  Reduce the size, trim, manipulate, change colours….many features help me to work it in a convenient way.  Even other photos in my computer, I can manage with this software.   Very good!!

The camera is excellent for Close up photos.  If you enjoy those close-up shots in my album, it is not my merit, but the camera’s.    Excellent feature!   There are several modes, but face detection with smile shutter feature is a new addition with this model.   If we keep the camera on and if it is on the smiling mode, if anybody is having a wide laugh, the camera will capture it automatically.  Wow!!!    But yes, you have to laugh mouth wide open.

There is a scene selection option in which you can change the settings of the camera to suite the best.  This include, ISO (To taking photos at night, effective, but not that efficient), Smile shutter (I already explained about it), Soft snap (I didn’t tried this option much, but this is to shoot subject with soft background), Twilight portrait (To shoot portraits in low light with flash, good option), Twilight (To take moon and other similar objects, but it is hardly effective where the capturing is taking too much time and to keep one steady till it capture the photo need circus practice, if not yoga.  I will give negative to this feature), Landscapes (I am yet to do my Fujairah trip to test this one), Hi-Speed Shutter (To capture speedy objects), Beach (you can see many photos with this feature in my album, this is a good feature.   Day or night, these pictures give good finish), Snow (I think I have to go to Europe to test this feature.  I wonder when Sony will issue a summer option in place for middle-east market!) & Fire works (Let me wait for the Dubai Shopping festival to get some fire works over here, but so far the option doesn’t look that great where I tried two times or so and again, the capturing time spoils the show).

Now there is a PGM mode, where you can change the settings manually, for the focus, ISO, and many other cases.  Since I am very much amateur, didn’t attempted many options in this one, but tried several ISO option changes and somewhat useful.   However, for those who know how to operate them will find these options very customary.

Then finally, the video option where you can shoot as many scenes as possible, till the unused memory (2GB) is full.

With one full charge of battery, we can take approximately 150 photos of high quality.   Individual picture memory may be around 2 MB plus minus.   8.1 Mega Pixel clarity makes the camera sufficient for my usage (My friend bought the 10 Pixel camera but the results are almost identical.)

2.3 inches high, 3.6 inches wide, .8 inches deep, 4.5 ounces the camera is quite handy.   I have a silver colour, which I chose ahead of pink, black and white.

I am using the camera for 6 months and so far not any single complaint has come to my notice.     So far I have taken more than 5000 pictures, and still I am within the warranty period, i.e. 1 year.

The best features, touchscreen, 30MB inbuilt and 2GB additional memory, powerful battery and flash, Excellent for close up photos any time, any photos during day, seaside photography, personal photos, close-ups etc. , and much more.   You can also edit the picture with paint brush in the camera itself, if you wish that way.    Focus change by touching the screen is also a good option.

The worst features, 3X only, Twilight option, just forget it.   One another problem for the new comers is the sensitivity of the camera.  Even a small shake of hand can blur the photo.  My first 50 photos were just blur and blurs…but then I learn to steady my hands while taking the photos.  I already told about the failed Twilight option.

Overall, I am very much happy for this camera.   My colleague bought another brand for a similar price, and when I compare this camera is far ahead for its value and quality.  Recommended for amateur photographers!

And now tell me, do you like to live in your past?  If not, how come you reached here?  Some times, it is better to live in the past where there is a camera to capture those good moments!!
