Hi all. I bought the DCR HC 40 E Sony Handycam from Singapore Mustafa Centre in Dec 2004. Its a good camera and easy to operate. Results are satisfactory.
Suddenly a problem has cropped up in my cam. As soon as I start the cam, it starts capturing still pics - all by itself. And the LCD screen Menu functions freeze. I contacted Sony Service. They advised me to turn the Burst mode Off. I could reach the Still Set Menu after a lot of difficulties, and found that the feature was already off.
I dont know which Service Centre I should turn to and as I am sceptical of the quality of service technicians in some of the centres. I think it will be better to hand over the camera to the service centre at Kolkata. Still dont know what to do. The local Service Centre say that they dont have the knowhow/ qualified technician for repiaring handycams, and that they will send it to the service centre at Ranchi. (and probably they will send it to Kolkata).
So guys, dont go by the brand name Sony. Electronics good can go defective irrespective of the reputation the brand name carries.
Problem Rectified:
Hi all!
I gave the Handycam at the Sony Service Centre at Ranchi. It has been repaired. Three parts were changed - The switch block, A ckt board and the Flex cable to the LCD screen. The parts were ordered from the International Service Centre at New Delhi (as my model was bought in Singapore).
Repair Cost - Rs 3500.00 (includes Rs 1500 - service charge).
Repair time - 15 days.
