For those of us who cant shell out a five digit amount for a mobile phone, Sony Ericsson has finally come for help. Their K300i is just that. When we compare it with their previous model K500i, its little brother lacks little or just a little. It seems 500i have an FM tuner and speaker phone. That’s all! K500i was launched with a hefty price tag of around Rs 13000. K300i is Rs 5000 cheaper!! Great news. No?
If we go on elaborating the features, it will run pages. Ok! Ok! It is a triband GSM, with VGA camera having 4X zoom, 65K LCD screen and a 12mb internal memory. Scheduler, calendar, Jawa applications, games are all there. It also sports an IR port and USB connectivity.
On positive side
Its most elegant looks are what strike you first. It is available in two tones, silver and blue. (Mine is blue, that looks better). This phones reception is outstanding. I am telling it in the basis of comparison with my friends Nokias and my own Sony Ericsson T 100. Reception is something nowadays no body talks about. My previous T100 was miserable in that matter. K 300i gives excellent quality sound even in very fringe areas where other handsets fail out. It is really a matter of envy for my friends.
The phone and its menus are very user friendly and intuitive (at least for computer users). The JOY STICK makes it a pleasure to use.
Even though every phone have T19 input, the format they used here is much more user friendly. In put made much easier with the usage of the Joy stick.
K300i have still capture in 4 resolutions, video recording and sound recording. I couldn’t watch the stills in my PC till now, so can’t comment on the quality. Anyway it looks much better on LCD screen than in the other midrange phones. (Comparing with Nokia, LG, and BenQ). Video quality is also very good (no tele shots please). A 1 mt 50 sec clip used only 1mb.
The phone have many sound activated functions like for dialing, receiving and rejecting and a magic magic word. Please refer to some brochure for complete list of features.
Some improvements
The memory in phone and SIM card are handled separately. If one is made default and if you want to dial a number in the other site then it is a little trouble some. You will have to navigate through an entire menu.
Even though the phone has PC connectivity, connection cable or software is not supplied with. The cable is very expensive- original RS 1200 and fakes 500-800. That is too much. Software you can download from site.
It was good if the camera had some sort of lens cover. Very small lens makes difficult cleaning.
What I feel
This phone makes an excellent buy! A real value for money and a super performer!!
