I was getting bored of using my Nokia 6600, it was getting old so it was time to get a new one. I was on a tight budget so I had no option but to buy a Sony ericsson K750 since it had most of the features that I could ask for. And with the prices dropping these days it looked like a good value for money. I have been using this phone for two months now.
Camera
Considered as one of the best 2MP camera phone in the market K750 wasted no time it impressing me with it’s great quality pics. The camera really is great. It has autofocus. Thankfully the camera lens is protected by the shutter which you don’t usually find in other phones at this price. It has 4x zoom. It has different levels starting from 1.0, 1.1, 1.2.......3.8, 3, 9, 4.0 You can choose between three resolutions- Large 1632x1224, medium 640x480 and small 160x120. There is a macro function to take pictures from close ups. Night mode improves lightning in poor lightning conditions. Want to take pictures in absolute dark? K750 will do that for you too just turn on the light(flash) and night mode and you can take really good quality images in total darkness. There is a self timer, choose it and it’ll take pictures after a few seconds, it would have been better though had they included a timer in seconds like nokia phones. You can add effects like black and white, negative, sepia and solarize. You can choose a frame prior to taking pics or choose the burst mode which takes four pics simultaneously.
It can take videos in resolutions of 176x144 and 128x96. The videos are quite decent considering the resolution. But don’t expect much from it. It’s good for close ups only.
So the camera leaves nothing to be desired. It’s not just a 2MP camera by name, it really works.
Sound
Sound reception is on this phone is satisfactory, nothing special about it. The voice is clear but lacks loudness. Loudspeaker is just ok while listening to songs it provides decent quality sound but it lacks loudness and depth. Where it shines though is sound from headphones, the sound is detailed with great bass. There is a 5 band equalizer to adjust sound according to your needs. Make sure your songs are encoded above 192 KBPS to take full advantage of it. You can play and pause songs through the button on the left side of the phone which can also be used for radio. I was really taken by surprise by the sound since I didn’t expected it to be that good. The sound quality of the radio was also pretty good but not as good as MP3 tracks. But still, listening to radio is a good experience.
Body and design
Pretty slim and sleek phone and feels much better to hold than bigger nokia phones. Fits perfectly in your palm but I little light for me, weighs just 99gms. This phone is all about sleekness and can attract anybody. But the screen gets scratched easily. I think it’s inevitable.
Misc. features and notes
The WAP browser is quite ordinary. It doesn’t work most of the time even if it works the small screen of the phone spoils the fun, my 6600 works fine. They both run on hutch sims.
Wish it had EDGE or 3G.
Three games are included- Aero mission, Puzzle slider and Super real tennis. You can download java games.
There is a Video dj and photo dj feature which lets you edit movies and pics respectively.
You can record sound in good quality.
There is a remote control feature through which you can control your PC via a bluetooth device.
SMS memory is very low, allowing just 150 messages to be stored.
You can install additional themes on phone.
Memory is hot swappable. Which means you don’t have to turn your phone off to remove the memory card. You just have to remove the memory stick duo cover on the left side of the phone.
Supports a whopping 2GB memory.
You can do other work while listening to songs.
The phone does not show call history in seconds which is a bit of a let down.
Mp3’s can be used as ringtone without any additional softwares.
Battery is not that great. Listen to Mp3’s and radios or take snaps and the battery starts to go down quickly.
Conclusion
Do you need a phone with a great camera and great sound? Do you need a sleek looking phone? And have a budget of around 10, 000-11, 000? There is nothing better than this phone in this price range. It does a great job of more than justifying it’s price tag. It has a few flaws like a small screen and limited SMS capacity. But it has an excellent overall package to justify it’s price tag. You can find even better phones in the market like 6270, N70, D600 but they come at a price. If you are on a higher budget than I would recommend these phones. But at this price you can’t beat Sony Ericsson K750. Happy buying.
