1 year old K750i

If you’re wondering why such a late review?, With prices dropping to Rs.10, 000 This phone has hit the sweet spot in pricing. I just could’nt help promoting this little wonder.

Being married serves as a good excuse to keep changing phones, because every year somebodys phone is sooo boring. Over the past 8 years we have run through Nokia 3210, Moto C350, Moto C300, SE T610 and now the K750i.

I never considered camera phones a interesting, because of poor quality and bulky build. But SE-K750 changed all that, it was the first to introduce 2MP and then the first to have auto-focus. And finally to top it off expandable memory upto 4gb. That was it, after reading lots of previews and reviews, We bought a K750 for 20k in july 2005(yeah, it sounds like a lot). But then we were also mentally prepared to goto the service centre for being early birds. We did pay a huge price, the phone was serviced 3 times in the last year, I did have to reload my phone thrice.

The good part is we did take a lot of pictures on our trips and had it printed 4X6. The final results are so good that I never considered the service center visits as bad experience (and also we were paying the price for being early)

What stuck me:

Form factor, nothing comes close to w800 or K750i in terms of features in that form factor, I’m a big fan of the candybar design. And these two models are just on the verge of my acceptable size. My other phone is T610 and I seriously consider it the first ’designed and architected’ phone. That probably answers why nokia does’nt figure in my favorites.

Voice quality and reception, nothing short of superb.

UI and controls, I’m a fan, no matter what people say. The joystick does collect dust, but your hairdryer will do a good job cleaning it.

Superb camera, I mean it I have printed photos, and at 4X6 theres no difference b/n any digicam. Seriously I can share some photos, so that you can print it yourself. The number of megapixels are just an indicator of what you can expect, that said never underestimate a well caliberated 2MP sensor. I have proofs..

Video: hmmm, nothing great. But so is everyother phone.

Sound/mp3/FM, quite good, what I seriously miss is a dedicated headphone socket, how I wish I could plugin a decent pair of headphones.

I did go for 1Gb memory, and now I dont know what to fill it with. I never watch movies on a tiny screen, not meant for that.

Other than the walkman branding and better headset, there’s virtually no difference between W800i and K750i, so make an educated guess when choosing between the two.

All said, at Rs.10, 000 K750i is a steal, go for it if camera is of importance to you, and you like candybar designs.

If you were the first few to buy walkmans in the 80s, and Cd players in the 90s and ipods now, I would suggest you go for SE W series you wont be let down.

BTW if you dont mind shelling out 20, 000 for a cellphone which will be outdated before you walk out of the store, wait for the 3MP models
